I find that I don't use all of the batteries often for my Rebel XT. Should I recharge them occasionally or just when I plan on using them. I am not sure if letting them sit for a period not in use is okay? I do use my camera often but I got a little carried away purchasing batteries, I have ten of them:shock:.
Thanks,
Shaun

10 !!!
I've got 4 (for my 20D) and and have only ever had to change one whilst out shooting in my life!
I'd occasionally give them a 'top-up' and swap them around as well to keep them in use.

What were you thinking? I have 4 and it's plenty, even for a 5 hour shoot. I think I only use 2 of them. Sell the extra ones here and I'm sure they'll get snatched up.

Sheesh I had 6 for my XTs and though I was pretty bad. LOL. You could go to Africa for a month on 10 batteries. And water. Don't forget to take water.

Yea, I know 10 is a little excessive. At the time I did not know how long they would last in the camera and I got great deal on them. I think I paid around $60 for 9 of them (one came with the camera). I guess I should number and rotate them to keep all of them somewhat in use.

Shaun, you don't need 10 of them. Trust me. If you got Sterlingteks they last for hours on a charge. Keeping track of 10 batteries is unnecessary. I shoot events and just got a grip and I doubt I'll change batteries once in a day.

I have four and a grip on my 20d
I put two in the grip and have the other two charged and ready to go.
I rotate between the two sets.
When I just had two I would rotate between them and one batt would last a VERY long time.
I like to keep a set of "charged" batts ready to go.

I have never had need for more then four of them - My battery grip holds two and I keep a couple more on me just in case. I did go through a second set on a week long back pack this summer.

10 does sound a little bit over the top Shaun :) Why don't you sell 6 of them and use the cash to buy another memory card or any other accessory you like? At least something that you'd make use of.
Of course we all may be wrong here and if we, are at least you'll be the last one shooting when we've all run out of power!!
cheers

Wow... 10 batteries is quite a lot. I have four and like Kevin posted earlier, I have only ever had to swap them out once during a soccer game. You might want to eBay a few of those and buy some new glass. :)

:) I leave for Africa on Friday and I'm taking 8 total for the 5D and 20D. Plus a SterlingTek charger with a car lighter adapter.

I have two in my XT grip. I have never run out of power and carry the AA adaptor in case I do.

Just curious,
Are the autos/trucks on the same 12v system we are on?
Do our cig lighters fit down there......................
Thanks!

Yes, 12 volts in cars and trucks is standard. Airplanes and a few trucks may run 24v.

I have two for my 30D and they last me forever. Only after about 1,000
pictures I change the battery. Meanwhile the other is charging.
Never had the need for more batteries. But if you had them for a good price
you can easely sell 6 of them.
Good luck.

One thing to bare in mind:
"A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. This drawback is not widely publicized."

generally speaking, one camera or camcorder need two of high quality of digital camera and camcorder batteries (http://www.camcorder-battery-shop.com) .
and A new camcorder battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to the devices manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the digital camcorder battery may require three to four charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.
