Deanna,

I asked a similar question a few days ago. Look at this thread by clicking on the link below:

I have decided to make the upgrade to 30D next month and will purchase mine from B+H Photo.

Hope this helps,

I took the plunge and upgraded my XT to the 30D, and I love it.
You won't regret it.

I answered that question many times now.
I am happy with upgrade from XT to 30D, my advice is to go to a local store if available and ask him to try 30D with 1 or 2 lenses in the store and see if you really find that 30D is worth upgrade over XT, i did find it is worthy alot.

Tareq,

That is great advice...try before you buy :-)

spot metering is nice. If you want/need the features on the 30D that the XT doens't have, then yes. Image qulaity is about the same, if not same.

I don't know if I'd agree with that really... maybe...

Anyway... here's something to consider in your decision... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos30d%2Ccanon_eos350d&show=all

main thing i'de want a 30d for are the better af system and the 5fps shutter speed. even spot metering isn't really that big an issue for me since most of the stuff i do requires manual mode more often than not. unless you are unsatisfied with your 350d (i hate it, but i can't live without it either ;)), no need to think about a 30d

Hang on to the XT until spring when the new camera is released. Then watch the price on the 30D plummet. :) That's what I usually do with camera bodies.

mostly i do that, thats why i got 30D, even 5D i tried and i loved it alot but still i don't want to take it over 1D series for my own reasons.

I've owned the 300D, 1D Mark IIN, XT, and the 30D with about 30,000 shots or so among them. There really isn't a noticable difference. The main thing I could tell was that with the 1DMIIN, when shooting RAW in high ISO, you could pull a little bit more detail out with less noise. That's about it. According to dpreview, 30D has the highest dynamic range at 8.4 with others being around 8.2.

I think, lens and shooting and post processing technique will make a bigger difference than the body (assuming current Digic II processor is being used).

Because of that i go wrong way, i just get many bodies and lenses to get better photos, i don't like to spend that most time on pp to get all my photos great Amazing, can't i get that direct from camera? and good that you state that 1D mk2N got less noise with high ISO with RAW format, that is enough to me.

the difference isn't that big, as I used to shoot the N and the XT at the same event.
Most of the time saving can be done with proper technique with assist from processing. I'd say thinking a 1D or 5D will somehow dramatically make a difference to a shot will leave you disappointed.
Practical phtography a month ago tested the 1DsMII and they made prints with it and a same shot with the XT and at 12x18 (A4 size, I belive) 87% of people, including photographers couldn't tell which camera made which print.

Do it, do it, do it! I LOVE mine. Just handles better. The wheel on the back is fantastic. I used to keep banging my snout into the timer button on the 350D and really, it's not that big a snout.

YES, DO IT DO IT DO IT. 30D is more pro body close to 5D than 350D, even features are better, maybe not necesary for better quality in many cases, but you will find that taking photos with 30D much exciting and enjoyable over 350D.

I must agree with Liza here. If you've got the XT, you’re better of waiting for the upgrade of the 30D... either to buy the upgrade, or to buy the 30D at a reduced price. I still think that you will get more in case of IQ from buying a really good lens (or two).

The only certain way we can improve as photographers, is by taking a lot of pictures :)

thats what Im leaning towards right now... until yesterday...for some reason it appears that my dang xt is having some focus problems...its deadly when close up, but to do a family portrait, full body, the image isnt as sharp as I expected it to be, I was shooting with 5.6-about 7 I think...with ss 1/160 and iso 200...all things that are normally good results fro me...I will have to check more today....im hoping I dont have to send it in for service....:(
