View Full Version : Difficult Decision Story

Sorry to post this second time but i think it is better here than a reply post on another someone thread, sorry for that.
now i am happy that i got 30D, and i am waiting my 1Dmk2N to come soon i hope.
Now Full Frame calling me alot so i can't sleep till i can afford one very soon.
I will tell you my situation or thinking then you decide what is right decision: I love 1D series body for weather sealing, focus speed and so, for that reason i ordered first 1Dmk2N to help me in wildlife and sports later, i am thinking of 1Dsmk2 very very long time ago and i heard as you heard that maybe mk3 will come maybe, and with all that the price of 5D is coming down slowly so i can afford it anytime soon, but i don't want to get it and then replace it for 1Dsmk2 or mk3, i am sure i will buy mk2 or 3 even if i have 5D so i think maybe i will waste my money to get 2 cameras when i think of one, i am not hurry on FF now but i will think and decide to add it to my list sooner or later, i have time to buy it later. Now another thing i think about is that i got good bodies already so it is time to get some glasses as i am sure you all prefer to get more glasses over bodies, so what i think of glasses are all expensive except one or 2 glasses.
the glasses i look for are the following:
EF 500mm f4L IS
EF 400mm f2.8L IS
EF 300mm f2.8L IS
EF 135 f2L
EF 85 f1.2L
EF 50 f1.2L
EF 35 f1.4L
the most glasses i think of are: 500 & 135, the rest i can buy later one by one and maybe i can ignore some if i don't need for some reasons and all due to my limited budget every month.
there are 300 f4LIS and 400 f5.6L i can afford them as well but always i look for the best so then i don't look back or replace later or buy another, need always fast lenses because i work in all conditions outdoor and indoor in good light and low light.
so now i don't know what to take next, new body is coming (mk2N) so i will not think of new body (dsmk2/3) very soon, so only glasses are in mind now, but 500 is out of my budget for about 2 months, and if i buy one lens now (say 135L) then i will wait another one or 2 month to get another gear. So if you are people in my place, what you will do?
Don't worry people, i take photos of anything in mind everyday (from wide to long).

Tareq, no I do not worry, I agree with you that photography is a mental game as well.
You seem to have a cartload of photogear already....good gear too. However, if you feel you need more.....sure, go for it. If I were you, I'd buy the 500 f/4 and 135L up front too. Then 85L perhaps, then 300 f/2.8. I am not sure about 400 f/2.8....very expensive, very heavy.
Good luck, post some pictures with your new gears when you get a chance.;)

You listed only primes so I assume zooms are out of the question…
Primes are great but zooms are more economical and you can get some fast zooms now so….maybe you might want to rethink your list a bit. If you prioritize the type of photography you’d like, that would really help prioritize your lens list. I like shooting everything as well but the truth is I'm in certain photographic environments more then others.
Also, and I know this is going to create some discussion; I’d look at the none-L glass for the 85mm. You said you wanted to shoot sports and to me the AF on the 85 f/1.8 is better for sports. It’s also a pretty sharp lens and about 80% cheaper then the new 85mm L.
I love my 24-70 L, it’s perhaps the greatest walk around lens I have ever owned. Please don’t misunderstand me; I love primes, but only in the range for specific tasks.
My suggestion is take a look at some zooms to cover a few of the ranges you’ve listed.

Buy them all over time but buy the most expensive one now immediately so you know you have it in hand if you feel a need for it. They are all sharp and even if you don't use them then they will never go blunt like tools in a drawer and at least you know you can use them if you ever want too. They are good for taking pictures.
As for bodies buy as many as you need, or can carry, even with a man-servant, because it saves changing lenses. Buy the most expensive so you can take only the best and most sharp shots.
You also mention getting some new glasses. I think that is a great idea if your current ones have worn out. Alternatives are contact lenses and also Laser eye surgery. Both of these are better than glasses IMO and mean you can also wear cooler shades ;-
Main thing is to enjoy your gear and after it well with regular spit and polish ;-)

If I recall from previous posts, Tareq already owns all of the f/2.8 L zooms, as well as the 100-400... these L primes are the only glass left for him to buy. ;)

The last poster is correct, are you just buying the entire Canon line of equipment, because there a couple you should avoid....I am no where in your class dude! Have fun...

That's certainly how it looks from here. I say just buy one of them all so that the OP can put this most troublesome topic of "what lens" to rest for good. ;)

I say, Buy 4x 400D's with kit lens.
Then find 4 young people that really like photography, but they are not fortunate enought to buy a camera. Then start a photography learners club.
Number 1: It will make them feel really good.
Number 2: You will feel really good to help people that have a dream but could not do it.
You will find that will outweigh any lens purchase.:) :) :) :)

in fact i am thinking of 500 and 135 alot, then 50L or 85L, but 400 f2.8 just i will buy if possible for sports and i don't think i can handle that heavy lens even on tripod/monopod to shoot most wildlife for example.
but still you forgot that even i am going to buy lenses, i am thinking alot of that new FF.

Yes, they would take good photos. Photos, that to them would be worth more than gold and would be treasured long after the gold has run out and mankind has consumed itself in what he was told not too.

Tareq, What purpose is the 500mm going to serve? I mean, how are YOU going to use it? That’s a $5,000 plus lens. I have to admit I like, but to be truthful for my photographic needs it would be a waste. So, what kind of photography are you going to do with that lens?

Start a photography club and they would run after you.
There are so many amzing things to take images of in the UAE.

Tareq,
i know i mentioned this in another thread but i will post it again (please don't take this the wrong way). it does seem like you are buying just for the sake of buying at this point. you say you are dreaming about FF. do you need FF? you say you need the 400 2.8 for sports, have you ever held that lens or did you shoot any sports events and found that you need this beast of a lens? you ordered the 1DmkIIn and you haven't even received it and yet you are already looking at a new body. owning the entire canon line up is not that difficult to do (all you need is money). however, the trick is to own what you need and use what you own. buying the best is fine and all but it will NOT make your images better no matter what you think. some of the best photographer on this board are actually using the 300D and 10D. Lorek for example takes the best gloumer shots i have seen so far and untill recenetly, he was using a 10D and a $200 lens. can you please tell me the reasoning behind wanting each one of the lenses you have on the list? again, not trying to be rude, i respect you and after all, it is your money. i just don't want you to spend $20,000 thinking that because you have the best gears, great images are just going to be created by themselves. i was just like you and i too wanted to buy every single L lens made until i realized a few things on my own:
1) if the lens is too big or heavy, i will not use it so no point in buying it.
2) nobody really cares about my signeture on a photograhy forum, people care about the final image that i showed them.
3) a $100 lens is WAY better than a $90000 lens if you use it and don't use the more expensive one.
4) you can have a 1DsmkIIIIIII AND A $50000 lens but if you don't understand exposure and composititon, your images will still look worse than a 300D in the hands of a person that understands the basics.
5) very few people do all kinds of photography so buying all lenses really doesn't make sense.
6) starting 10000 threads about lenses are bodies is less productive than starting 20 threads with images askig for critique and tips (for me it was at least).
7) improving my composition and technical skills was a lot cheaper and more beneficial than buying another L lens.

I think i answered that question before.
all gears i can use on the time, and you believe that you will buy something when u need it, maybe not today but for sure tomorrow, and how can you know that you don't need any gear if you didn't try or you haven't it to use. for example how can i do alot of photography of wildlife or sports just with 50 1.4 or 24-70L?
it is like saying no need to fly by plane to go all over the world, just one bicycle can do alot for you or any cheap car will do the job.
someone told me that he met some professionals and they told him that it is ridiculous to use one or 2 lenses for everything even they shoot one type of photography, for example someone just photo portraits and he own about lenses for that only, is that logic? then what if someone who will shoot everything? i know one or few lenses can do alot, but each lens has it performance and each can be useful in some situations. I think you read alot of people looking for fast lenses or that is great for low light, then why not keep 50 f1.0 for all shots because it is ultimate lens.
it is 2 things, i spend alot of money just to get what i want and dream just to satisfy my desires and second to use all what buy on time doesn't matter if i use one lens one time or 1000000 times.
in addition, i got great photos from my 50 1.8 and 85 1.8, does that mean i don't need to get anymore lenses?
I appreciate your reply and i agree with you.

when i got my 70-200L i thought i will not use it as it is super lens, but i took around 10k with that lens in about 3 months maybe. when i got 100-400 it is on my 30D all the time and i still keep taking photos with it daily beside 16-35L.

I really doubt that... I would wager that most people who own this lens (mainly birders / wildlife shooters I would imagine) keep this lens on their camera a good amount of the time. Even rich photographers do not just drop $5k on a lens to have it sit in the closet (well, most of them don't...). In fact, the only reason I can see for them to stop using it is if they happen to buy something longer. ;)

1) you own the 100-400, what did it fail to do for you that you feel like a 400 2.8 can do better?
2) you own the 50 1.4, what do you think you will get from the .2 difference?
3) you own the 85 1.8, what do you think you will gain from the .6 difference?
4) what can't your 70-200 2.8 IS do that the 135 2.0 can?
i never said that you should only own 1 or 2 lenses. i said that you should own lenses that you need and not lenses that will look great in the signenture line. and again i ask you, why did you decide on the 400 2.8 lens? the lenses that you are talking about on your lins are specialized lenses and are tailored for very specific shooting situtations. there is a reason why you don't see many amatures buying the 400 2.8..

I can change my mind to buy glasses as i don't think i can afford 500 very soon but when i get 1Dmk2N soon coming and buy let's say 135L or even 50L then i can forget about those long pricy primes, and i wait my dad to give me some money so then i can buy 300 f4 or even 400 f5.6 because i know that i saved my money for better fast lenses and if i have to pay by my money saved only then i will think of fast lenses only.
All what i can say is that i am not in hurry, i am still using most of my currnent lenses in different occasions and situations and that doesn't affect of what i think to buy more later, all will be under usage time to time.

I am not sure that i will buy this 400 f2.8 for sure, but if i have that money with no problem then why not? but it is out of buying for about 2 years, but the only thing coming in the mind is that i am moving to get place into sports photography in field or clubs so then i think i will think of that lens alot, but don't worry, it is still in wishlist.

I will see when that 50L coming if those who own 3 50's will not think of it.
It is in my future buying list, not necesary i will buy it today or tomorrow, maybe i will never buy it, but again, if money issue is not a problem then this is no worry to add it sooner or later.
3) you own the 85 1.8, what do you think you will gain from the .6 difference?
My friend asked me to open a studio and sharing work, and he met alot of pro photographers, he told me most of them use 85L in studios, so i can think that maybe this lens will be better than 85 1.8 copy, but i think if i plan to buy 50L then this 85L is not necesary, otherwise i have to tell that friend about your opinion.
4) what can't your 70-200 2.8 IS do that the 135 2.0 can?
Primes always win in sharpness and fast competition, and that 135L is not expensive to say OH GOD $$$$. I like primes anyway.
i never said that you should only own 1 or 2 lenses. i said that you should own lenses that you need and not lenses that will look great in the signenture line. and again i ask you, why did you decide on the 400 2.8 lens? the lenses that you are talking about on your lins are specialized lenses and are tailored for very specific shooting situtations. there is a reason why you don't see many amatures buying the 400 2.8..
400 2.8 will be for pro usage sports only, so if i don't go for pro sports then this lens is wasting money.

By the way, looking at photos from different lenses makes me to dream to own them all.
I like my 100-400L but for fast focus or sharp image i think prime is preferable, i don't say that 100-400 is not sharp but not sharper than most long primes, am i wrong? if so then i don't care to buy one long prime for sharper image even only sharper 1 degree, lol.
zooms are great people but i will say it again for last time, I love Primes and All primes give great results wether it is cheap or expensive. I will think of all your reply, maybe i will not buy anything more later, who knows.
Thank you very much

I can change my mind to buy glasses as i don't think i can afford 500 very soon but when i get 1Dmk2N soon coming and buy let's say 135L or even 50L then i can forget about those long pricy primes, and i wait my dad to give me some money so then i can buy 300 f4 or even 400 f5.6 because i know that i saved my money for better fast lenses and if i have to pay by my money saved only then i will think of fast lenses only.
I wish my dad would give me some money for glasses...oh, yeah...he's retired on a fixed income and I make more then him....BUT I CAN DREAM!!!!!

Tareq, nothing against you personally bro (I could care less if you buy every single thing Canon ever created, it's your money, you are shooting whatever your shooting, if somebody loved photography and had a good eye and was a good photographer and spent all day and night photographing everything, I could see a need for just about any lens), but for the love of GOD please paragraph your posts better and use more grammar. I know I suck in English too and my post probably doesn't look all that great either, but your posts are like an eye sore to read.
BTW, if you give me any L lens, or even a Lens that's not L, I'll be your bestest friend forever. I'm Brian :D. Right now I am eyeing a nifty fifty, Tamron 28-75 and Canon 70-200L (2.8 or 4, IS or not IS, as long as it's free and working I'm happy.) :D.

the honest answer is that if you don't know which one to get, you don't need any of them. however, since it is clear that you have to buy one, i would go with the most expensive one and just get it over with. if all you needed was validation, all you had to do was ask :)

Tareq, I think I can help you decide what lens you should be first, or the body. But first of all I have a few points to clearify with you before I can really help.
1. Do you like to view your photos on computer screen or on a screen by a projector or view large prints?
2. If what you want is large prints, what is the largest size of prints that you want to have for your photos?
3. If you want to view large prints, get a pro printer from Canon or Epson, with finest ink and professional quality photo paper. I assure you it'll be the most satisfying ever purchase among your photographic lineup.
4. If you want to view on screen by a projector, than get a good projector. Same satisfaction as point 3.
5. If you want to view your photos on computer screen, get a good LCD screen and calibrate it. But for myself, computer is just where I work with my photos, not where I appreciate them.
6. If you have already had all those above, then:
7. I don't know if you are professional, i.e. if you sell or give away prints bigger than A3 upon customers' request. In that case, you DO need prime lenses for the ultimate optical quality. You may even find full-frame not sufficient and want something bigger: medium format. It all depends on what your customers want from you. If they want a wall-size photo, fine. You can go and buy an MF Hassy and Zeiss lens and 22MP digital back for that one particular project ---- you customer will pay everything for you.
8. I'm no professional. So my main interest is to print A4 and occasionally A3 (if I really like the photo) to make my own album (not portfolio though) for fun. If you experiment with the finest inkjet printers, ink and photos, you'll find what lens, megapixels etc make a real visible difference on an A4 or A3 print.
To me, it doesn't matter to me if photos taken with lens A, when you examine a 100% crop on computer monitor, are marginally sharper than those taken with lens B. If they deliver photos on A3 prints identical to my naked eye, they are the same to my need. They may not be the same to you as you have different need. But I think the principle applies. In my case, Lens A is $300 consumer lens, Lens B is $1500 L lens.
9. Do you need the 1D MKIII? I can't answer that for you. However, you can do the reasoning for youself, from the end product backwards. Decide what quality photo you want, then all the gears (camera bodies and lenses) are decided by your need.
However, one word about the 1D series all-weather sealing. It only makes sense when you work in EXTREME conditions for months. Canon's cameras, from 10D/20D/30D to 5D, are absolutely good enough for 30 minutes photograhing in rain with some cover. As long as you wipe it clean and dry when you can. I never hesitated to use my camera in rain or dust, though it's not a 1 series, and it never failed to do its job.
10. You need telephoto primes for sports and wild life. I think if for sports, all pros use zooms instead of primes, the reason is for better composition.
For wild life, more primes than zooms for lighter carrying weight and better optical quality. There are zooms used in wild life though. However, if you shoot that telephoto, you definitely need tripod, no IS will replace tripod in wild life. And when you mount your lens on tripod, you need to turn off your IS.
Lenses that have the IS feature have an additional group of glass, which gives your the Image Stablization, but impairs the optics. Some resolution fanatics don't use zoom, don't use IS either.
11. One word about your 30D. If you feel the resolution of the 30D satisfies you, and you want to do sports or wild life, you may feel the 1.6x factor on 30D is more welcome than a heavier and pricier lens on a full frame. A full frame is more justifyable for wide angle photography.
12. It's absolutely alright for you to have the entire Canon L lens collection. I bought many books that I like but I never read. But, I suggest you play them one by one, for a serious hobby (for family gathering shooting or friend's wedding, pick up the zoom lens that does the job). There's a lot a lot for you to find out at every focal length. For example, 36mm on a full-frame or 24mm on 20D/30D. In order to get a feel what and how a 36mm lens expresses, you gotta train yourself see the everything like a 36mm lens. It takes months, if not years to learn it.
It's more fun to be a master of one certain focal lens than a jack of everything from 10mm to 1000mm. It's just simply more fun, for a serious hobbist.
From my own experience, when my attention was on gears, i enjoyed gears; when my attention was on photography, i began to enjoy photography. I always tell myself that, many of the photos exhibited in New York's most prestigious galleries selling at multi-thousand dollars were taken with merely a Nikon D70 or Canon 10D.
Canon's advantages, over Nikon, one being it's telephoto lenses, one now being it's better image sensor. But don't forget its three tilt-shift lenses:
TS-E 24mm f/3.5L
TS-E 45mm f/2.8
TS-E 90mm f/2.8
If you ask me if I still have any dream lenses, they are.
Happy shooting,
Franxon

OH wow, it is long post.
I am a member in a photography club in my area, most members print thier photos on A3 or larger and they asked me to print on large size as well, i think someone told me to print in size of 30X40 i don't know what size is that but sure is large, so that i care very much of sharpness and quality, and they join some shows or exhibitions so i may need to print very large prints and some of those members sell thier photos, so i can be the one in the future who will sell his photos, and in this club they have large epson printer.
I hope this answer will clarify more, so i am waiting your reply.

In your Country, are you on the Imperial or Metric system? If you tell us which, I can give you an idea of what 30x40 inches would look like, or give you dimensions (although I'm sure you can find a converter yourself or do some simple math that 12" is 30cm or whatever.)
Anyway, if you want to print like 30x40, you'll definitley be needing to send your photos into the lab or whatever, cause I don't think there are any printers that people could afford, but instead more realistically labs could.
30x40 is huge though, sorry to keep ragging on about this, but I'de think you'de need an image with very little noise (shot at low ISO) on a high megapixel camera (maybe 5D or 1D MK II, not N.)

I will open a studio sooner or later so that i need larger printer, i saw a wall sized photos in that photography club, and for sure i go to labs to print large prints, so with all that i need the highest quality resolution wether it is body or lenses, even studio lightings i will choose something decent, so i can't say that i will do alot of professional works just with 350D and 50 1.8 only, and yes, even 16MP is not sufficient, some members got MF stuff so for sure i can't beat them with something semi pro or not that high quality if i need to print large, but with all that i don't want to go film or MF as i will spend alot more than getting longest primes with $4k-10k or bodies above $5k.
Maybe i am not thinking well but i feel that some highest primes with highest rated top bodies will be enough for me for a while till i feel that i need MF.

you are right. but let me ask this question: what is that 500 used for?
Tareq...
Are you serious? You had the 500mm on your “need to buy list” and you don’t know? The 500mm prime is a telephoto lens; I guess it would fit your bill because I think I read somewhere you wanted to take bird pictures. That is good use for the 500mm.
Hey, why stop there….GO FOR THE 600MM its Canons most expensive and longest lens … it’s BIG, and almost as heavy as the 400mmmmmm. If you buy it you will take the BEST pictures humanly possible. It WILL make you a GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER. The long length of the 600mmm is very impressive, it will definitely make up for ANY photographic inadequacies you might have and fill your needs superbly!
GO FOR IT! BUY THE 600!!!!!!

Anyway, it is my mistake to ask for anything when all or most of you don't agree to buy whatever, and instead of advising or recommend one or 2 lenses i listed you prefer to tell me to stop buy at all, who will stop buying when get infected and addicted.

I got many friends spent alot of money (minimum $40k) to buy many cars, for What? just to show others.
so if i have money to buy a car, and i am not interested to buy cars for show then i can spend my money on something else, photography is my life and mind now.
BTW, i have 2 cars, and one of my dad as backup.

Hey…sorry man. Look, I’m just jealous. I only have a few lenses. In fact, I am so ashamed of my limitations in the gear area I don’t even post a gear list. I’m afraid everyone will just laugh.
I’d like to be photographer one day….but still have a lot of work to do. So, Tareq please stick around. Having you around is like knowing a lottery winner. Maybe some of that ‘gear ability” will rub off!
If you like taking pictures of birds I’d go for that 500mm, it’s a fine telephoto lens (…or so I’ve been told). Never tried it myself but I imagine it would work great for wildlife. Again I am sorry…please don’t go.

WHAT!!! I thought you got plenty of lenses so that you are laughing at me.
Anyway, you are lucky to have nice weather and nature there, all my photos even with sharp prime are not so sharp out due to weather, only indoor are superb great, thats why i look for all high top prime as much i can to gain sharpest quality in bad conditions more than zooms, but who knows, i try hard to have money to buy what i like or "NEED", some people just buy what they need and like but if only like and not need they don't do, Life is once.
I don't buy any gear if i don't have enough money, and i don't buy many many gears as there are more than thousands of lenses over there and it is not a big deal if i have about 10 or 20 out of 1000s lenses, and 5 cameras out of 100s, just as i said before, i know what i choose and need but i ask you before i buy, maybe some tried many lenses and they know everything about it, so then they can tell me if it is worth or not, i am not asking if i should buy or not because i will buy even all the world said: DON'T BUY.
don't be sorry, i am here all the time as i believe that this forum is the best overall, just i wish people can understand me and respect me wether i go wrong or right, but i will leave this forum if some feel that i am annoying and i am wasting thier times.

But joking aside if it really makes you happy why not, my mum collects Swarovski crystal which i think are overpriced lumps of glass that sit in a cabinet doing nothing, everyone needs to have a hobby, even if yours is collecting Canon glass that stands in a cabinet doing nothing that's fine too, it's your hobby after all ;) Just please yourself :)

Right, sorry for that, at least i can't understand the way people reply to me and i feel like offended.
I like jokes alot, but at least i need to understand these jokes wether it is ok or it is just funny mocking.
If you can see i listed few gears asking for recommendation not asking to get them all, and whats wrong if i add to my wish list things can costs $1000k? it is still wishlist, and i said that all lenses i will buy are to get used one or another, we all got some gears wether it is expensive or so cheap and we don't use it that much, the only mistake i did is that i bought few sigma lenses in the beginning of my photography, only 2 sigma lenses i need.
Thank you for your reply and i appologize of anything bad you think.

I wouldn't take too much offense. There is a fair amount of jealousy in the replies you have gotten. I know several people who have wasted more than $100,000 taking drugs, gambling or chasing women. Buy what makes you happy. Personally, I wouldn't get some of those lenses because they'd be a problem to transport and/or use. The 500 f/4 would be my choice of the lenses listed though. I like taking pictures alot more than changing lenses or fiddling with gear.
Again, buy what makes you happy. If you never use the gear, well then that's your choice, and your money! Collectors of antique weaponry never use that either.

Tareq, don't feel offended. the money is ur money. you got it legally (i guess?:D). so spend it as you like. you have every right to it.
Tareq, the problem you're facing is very much different from those most of us have. we have to think hard how to make the loudest bang out of every dollar. you have almost unlimited budget, what troubles you is the priority of those stuff on your wishlist.
however Tareq, i still think, though your budget might be unlimit, but your time and energy is limit. it's possible for one to have the entire lineup of canon L lenses, but it'd be less possible for one, even a pro to have time to make good use of half of them.
so my suggestion is, go ahead to buy all of them, since the purchase makes you happy, why not? but concentrate on a few lenses for serious photography, the rest you might only need to use occasionally.
if you have more free time and dollars to spend on photography and you're really serious about it, i'd suggest you go for some master-level photographers' workshops. be it landscape, wild life, street, studio or whatever, as long as you're interested. that helps improve your photos more effeciently than a better camera or lens. perhaps you have already taken some of those. but you know, in art, there's no end.

My money is completely legal (don't doubt on that).
I have limit budget, but i can manage my spending money (for family, bills, stuff, food,...etc) so if i don't have money or my budget is very very low then i can't buy even 50 1.8 lens or cheaper. and i will never look for expensive gears if i don't have money to pay for it, so simple. just all my gears i will use it on the right time, doesn't matter i have to buy 1000 gears and i have to use them all at the same time, i need to use them one by one as subject or photography interest priority, imagine if you have 100 cars, can you drive them all in one day? even in one week i don't think you will drive them all unless you drive each car for 1 minute only, hehe. got point

What do you mean "no falcons here" ? I am told there are many sakers and peregrines in UAE, and falconry is a very popular sport.

i'm not sure if you have got my point. playing gears and playing photography are two very different things. to me, too many gears distract my concentration from photography. and true enough, i can't afford that many gears either.
car is a fine analogy. let's say Michael Schumacher has all the racing cars in in the world in his garage: 2006 F1 cars from all manufacturers, best WRC cars, best Le Mans cars of all four category including my favorite DBR9, best IRL cars, best NASCAR cars, every single nice car that is ever made. How many of them would Michael drive seriously? Michael is only expert of F1 racing. And perhaps he is only expert of a few makes of F1 cars, not all of them. If Michael spends his time to drive them all seriously, he would be as mediocre as other highway Ferrari drivers.
so, collecting them is one thing, as long as you can afford and it makes you happy; spending your precious time on it is quite another. I know some people have almost unlimited money, but I never know of people who have unlimited time and energy.

it is a habit, to buy a falcon and then go to desert and then release the falcon to follow and hunt small birds, i think i know someone who get falcon, maybe i will ask him to lend me that falcon or better take shots of falcon with my macro, too bad that we got many birds before including parrot and an owl and we got alot of pets like cute nice cats and some dogs, nothing we have rather than wild cats and a cock with normal peacock and few goats.
In fact, sakers or Falcon is our heritage symbol for UAE. you can see that falcon on our fediral symbol and coins or banknotes, just it is not that falcons everywhere flying over the UAE, you come and see by yourself.

For architecture i know about that, but can you explain and clarify more about landscape? i can have my 10-22 or 16-35L for landscape so rather than it is prime sharp what can that 24 do in landscape shots? if you can have links for smaple images then i can see that.
I was going to order 135L soon, so should i change it with TS-E 24?

I can't tell you which one you should order, 135L or TS-E 24L. it all depends on what kinds of photography you're going to do with it.
camera movements include rise, fall, shift, tilt, swing etc. SLR camera bodies are rigid, so people use TS lenses to do most of the job.
Full camera movements are only possible with view cameras. to know more about tilt and shift or view cameras, you can read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View_camera
what can these movements do? simply put: control the perspective. to be specific: all parallel lines in reality are parallel in picture, impossible for normal wide angle lenses (or make those lines converging the way you like it); control depth of field, infinite depth of field at large aperature, impossible for normal lenses; easier panorama with shift feature, no distortion. there's another interesting feature: you can shoot a mirror without your camera appears in the picture.
so view cameras are widely used by professionals shooting architecture, landscape and fine art etc.
disadvanges for view camera: bulky, no automation, not ideal for telephotography. however, there're compact view/technical cameras with digital backs nowadays. my dream for my photography. Horseman, Linhof or Sinar. Hard to decide. Wanna experience the view camera feeling with your SLR? Get the TS lenses.

Tareq.....the 300f/4 is a very good lens. The TS 24 is probably so..so (never had one though).
However, the 135L is a killer lens.
When you take that picture of saker flying ....using your MkIIN with 135L on it, you will not believe your eyes. I guarantee it !

Thats why i put this lens to my high fisrt priority next buy, even if i have lots of money to buy most long primes i will think of this lens more, and i know that 135L can fit on 1.4x or 2x TC's so then more reach and still high quality.
what makes me so confuse is that there are about 3 or 4 lenses with price less than $1500, so i am saving that money for my next buy and i have 3 or 4 choices and all are so great lenses indeed and all can be used in something to get great results, put yourself in my place, what you will do with new planning and $1500 in your hand

OK, seriously, with up to $1500 to spend, I'd get two killer primes, I mean both:
135L and 200f/2.8.
Zooms can be nice, versatile and handy, but these two can not be touched by no flipping zooms.

Tareq, what photography do you exactly want to do with your next lens?

135L 100% agree
200 f/2.8L 40% (i know it is super great, but not so long and i can add TC on 135L and still get close reach to 200 and good sharp enough)
think again of 200 f/2.8L

Wildlife, Sports, portraits. tele, tele and tele. nothing shorter than 85mm. and don't forget a good tripod. no need to consider the 50mm or 24mm TS-E before you change your photography style.

135L is in my list and i will confirm my order soon.
I started to save for 1DsmkII unless that mk3 arrived before i buy it, and a lens 500mm, i can't wait and confuse of what to buy, i did sports yesterday and my 70-200L was good but not enough for more better shots, prime is what i need but not 500 as it is for my wildlife, later after 5-7 months later i will think of either 300 f2.8 or 400 f2.8, i will pull a trigger in everything and then do all kind of photography for myself.

my dear friend, i have no idea when the 1Ds MKIII will be released in fact no one does except Canon. but if you look at the release dates (announced) of the 1 series:
1D: 2001-09-25
1D MK II: 2004-01-29 (28 months later)
1D MK II N: 2005-08-22 (19 months later)
3 models in 47 months (~4 years)
1Ds: 2002-09-24
1Ds MK II: 2004-09-21 (24 months later)
1Ds MK III: 2006-09? (24 months later?)
3 mondels in 48 months (~4 years)?????
my friend, you might want to invest into lens first. afterall, these glasses don't phase out so soon.

I am looking for Studio Lighting kit these days, there are many models and i will choose one good enough, so thats means i will do portraits and studio works later beside other things. I love photography very much so i don't care to keep one or 2 lines in photography when i am enjoying and loving it, i don't care if you all waiting photos from me because you all got great gears and you can do photos yourselves, i do photography for myself and desire, so i need always to have good enough gears, even those 1DsMK2 or 1Dmk2N not enough for highest ever, but i can't drive faster than 400 by car can drive maximum 400 or less, you got point.
and don't worry, i can invest for both, and just i will buy one more body which is FF and i want it only 1-series not 5D, so lenses are added one by one in time, no problem at all.
Thank you

the cameras for studio work are those cameras/digital backs with MANY megapixels. with 1Ds MKII at the entry level, when you look up and you'll find the newly released Hasselblad H3D, or more classic 503CWD. alternatively, remember the view cameras i mentioned? Horseman and Sinar? with these you have the luxury of using the finest glasses from Zeiss and schneider. Nikkor or Canon lenses are no comparison to them. together with a state-of-the-art digital back, either the 33MP Leaf Aptus 75s or the 39MP PhaseOne P45. these are the real workhorses for fine art. besides, these digital backs are interchangable, when there're new better digital backs out, you don't have to change the entire camera, simply put a new back on the camera you love.
