Sigma 100-300 F4 EX HSM with other than Sigma TC?

Hi!

has anybody experiance with the Sigma 100-300 F4 EX HSM used with a Teleconverter different than the original Sigma? Or is it only possible with the original one from sigma on this lens?

what about AF/MF? something else intersting?

I have not tried it wiht other t-cons.. but I would strongly suggest that if you need to by a T-con.. just get the matching Sigma. They are only $150.00.. a real bargain and they are very high quality.

Lastly,. many t-cons are physically designed to only work with specific lenses. Canon's and Sigma's for example. They simply will not fit many lenses.

Other companies make universal t-cons,. like Kenko etc.. but there quality is far behind the Canon and Sigma.

I have just purchased that lens (my first quality lens by jove) and did a fair amount of current research before purchase.

General advice is as above and 1.4 quality is reported as practically indistinguishable from bare lens. 2 times not as well regarded it seems but stick with Sigma.

Oh yes,. I forgot to mention 1.4X Vs. 2X

The 1.4X t-con will allow full autofocus (f/5.6)

If you use a 2X,.. the resulting aperture of f/8 will NOT allow autofocus on most Canon cameras including 10D and DRebel.

the only thing is, that I've read many articles out there in the www that tell that the sigma TC has a bad quality.

Is there anybody who ones one and can tell the different?

Well,. I humbly disagee.

I beleive that Canon's TCs work better on Canon lenses... that is what they are designed for.

But the Sigma's are probably second only to Canon and Nikon's, and are in fact designed to work with sigma lenses.

I have both Sigma TCs and am quite happy with them.

Yeah, that are good news CDS! Sigma's TC are much cheaper than canon's and so I think the 100-300 F4 would be my next "big" puchase ;-)
