Hi
I would greatly appreciate a critique of this photo. Is this a strong composition? I took it in the North of Scotland at the weekend. It was beautiful but very cold, very!
Thank you
Martin.

I really like it, except for the middle pole that seems to be the subject, perhaps with less DOF, focusing the house (so that the pole is blurred) would have made a better image, or with no pole..., or not making the pole centered...
I guess you didn't want to make the pole the main subject, did you?

Strong composition? I'm not sure I would say that. It's very horizontal, with interesting textures. I don't dislike the composition, but I wouldn't call it "strong." I might refer to it as "layered."
You've made what you can of very flat light, but I wonder if you can bring out just a bit more contrast. Congratulations, however, on holding the detail in the whitest snow, in the forground.

This looks like a beautiful spot.

COMPOSITION - the WORD:
**********************
I am not sure if the word composition inludes "everything" on the image. I am going to suppose that it does. If so, when compared to your earlier compositions this one has:
- nice B & W elements,
- horizontal 3rd, but
- few dynamic lines draw us across the middle ground and the subject.
Also, the layering is a bit detracting as it adds an ink-gray that does not have a strong artisitc impact.
STILL ITS A LOVELY SHOT

Compared to most of your work what is missing "for sure" is stronger sunlight and color that makes your scottish scenery so enjoyable in the past. A great shot, but the light and color limit its visual impact and statement at this small screen size.

I too think that the fence and fence posts tend to block
my vision into the composition.
I quite like it cropped above the fence. Then it becomes a pan shot
that it pleasing and remote and cold looking.
I like it.

I like a blur(or what) effect in the pic. Intentional or not it works very good.
