I've seen a lot of volleyball pics in the last weeks, and I'm really happy about that, because it's a very hard game to shot and it requires to know the game to shot it, I mean.
I wish to post just few shots from my last volleyball work for a B2 Series team (B2 is the 4th national league in Italy). I'll be happy to receive some critics
Gear used for these shots: Canon EOS 30d + EF 85 f/1.8 (waitin' for 135 f/2...)
Exposure Time: 1/250sec
F Aperture: f/2.5
ISO Speed: 640

These are sooooo coooool!! Great action captures, some really fun angles and again, great action captures. Your color looks great. I adore the photo at floor level with the angle, #3 I think. Great stuff!

i smell strobes ;)
i'm sure you could probably bump up the iso to 1000 (iso noise at 800 is higher than 1000 on the 30d suprisingly enough) and get 1/500th shutter speed. only thing that bothers me here is the whitebalance. just makes the picture look more dead than if it was warmer and more evened out. first few pics are yellowish, then more purplish, but the last one looks good (maybe a bit warmer would be nice)

Fabrizio - top notch stuff here. All very nice, but if I were the editor picking, number 6 would be the one for me. The white balance is fine to me, but I am easy. I also like the variety of angles you show...I am a sucker for the finger shots, moving balls don't bather me either. I think what would have rounded out the set though would be at least one good bump as well. Funny thing to.. which you don't have which is a good thing in my book... it the hand striking the ball shot. It's neat to catch - a novelty - but just isn't the best looking shot. I am glad you resisted posting one but again, in my opinion, they just hardly ever are pretty shots.
Oh, and a big welcome to the forum, and look forward to seeing more stuff from ya. Cheers.

The unusual angle of the third shot is good for me.

I Like #3 a lot, very cool angle. The only thing that bothers me is the blurred left foot and blurred ball.
Good shots though!

Hi guys, really thanks for comments and critics.
To take this shot, I went on a steel structure placed on the long side of the field, just behind the second referee, about 4 meters upside the ground.
I know problem with white balance, I fixed white balance in the last shoots, but not on first one, I went so quickly and I had no time enough to fix it on every shoot.
Now I need the EF 135 f/2 'cause 85 is a little bit short for some shoots, and I need a 200 2.8 too, but I'm not sure about the last one, someone said me it's soft at 2.8, and I need a sharp lens ...

Those shots are truly wonderful, they all had depth and sharp focus. I especially loved the point of view and the stop action. No blur. Wonderful.
