There have been several suggestions on enhancing the structure of this forum.
The most interesting was the suggestion that the board carries a Tips section or an FAQ section. While both have their merits, the biggest problem when you are looking for an answer, is that you don't know the right question. I think, I have only once had an FAQ that actually answered my question. That's why forums like this are so popular. A real question posed by a real person is answered by real people, and the question poser has the chance of saying - no, I didn't mean that, what I actually meant was -----.
The realisation of what the right question was, usually dawns some half dozen posts into the topic.
As I was replying to a post earlier today, I suddenly realised what would be really useful on this site - a permanent listing of useful links!!
The really useful links are dotted throughout the forum in various posts in no particular order. As we individually chance to come across them, we tag them into our favorites, but there is no way of boosting a great link so that it stays in some central repository of links.
So, Pekka, is it in any way possible to create a place within this forum where links can be posted on particular topic areas. You know the sort of areas of interest that crop up again and again:-
Testing Focus
Correcting blur
DoF
Sensor Cleaning
Workflow
etc. etc.
If I found a site with a new way of sharpening images, I could check the 'Correcting Blur' links area, and if the link was not already there, I could post it together with a brief description - adding it to the list of links.
Really popular links could perhaps show up by the number of times they were read.
The really great thing about such an area would be that posts could reference these links easily because the links would not be lost within a rapidly growing stack of posts and threads. The links would always be in a static 'Links Area'.
We often read a post advising individuals to 'Search the Board' on the subject at hand. In reality, this board is so popular, doing a search on any of the popular topics brings up a GOOGLE sized list of threads, which is rapidly becoming impossible to trawl through.
Having access to a static links area, where you can find specific links to off board expert sites, or even on board past threads which did real justice to a topic, would I believe be a great boost to the congestion of information this great board is starting to create
So Pekka, is it possible? and if it is possible, does anybody else think it would be a useful refinement to this great forum?
