Not shure where to put this topic so decided here. Mods feel free to move
I have my 30D with EF and EF-S lenses
I am now doing a photography couse and the first session is all about B&W Film photography and then deveoping and printing in a dark room
I therefore need a film camera to allow me to do this course (NCFE Level 2 Photography).
I don't know anything about Canon film cameras but would want to be able to use my EF lenses if poss.
I have seen a couple of 2nd hand cameras, the EOS 30 and EOS 5
Anyone have any suggestions and an idea of what I should be paying

Most photography courses like that I've heard of require an all manual camera (ie: no auto controls available). Does yours have that stipulation? If so, I don't think you're going to find anything you can use your EF lenses on. Also, no film camera supports EF-S lenses.

I think they are not that strict so so long as its a film camera.....

Have a look at the film Rebel line, then. I have a couple old Rebel 2000's that would probably fit the bill nicely. I think those were called Rebel 300's in the UK (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
There have been several different versions of the film Rebels to choose from, and you could probably pick up a good used one dirt cheap.

Well, if you want a used camera at a reasonable price, you can probably pick up an A2 or A5. It's got full manual controls, a good autofocus system, and will use all your EF lenses.

The Rebel K2 is a decent film camera. The controls on it are similar in many ways to the Rebel XT. It is the one I have and use for all my B&W film shots. In the US, the price on that particular camera is right around $150.00 (give or take a few bucks)
You wont be able to use your EF-S lenses on it, but it is compatible with all EF lenses.
Have fun in your photography course. :)

I think the Elan series are decent film cameras. I don't know about the ones you were asking about. I have the EOS 3, but that is actually still in production and costs over $700 new. But if you can get the Elan 7ne, that is a nice camera.

According to this site - http://photonotes.org/cgi-bin/camera-lookup.pl?camera1=eos30&camera2=eos30v&camera3=*&camera4=*&camera5=* - the EOS 30 is the Elan 7E and the newer (Still in production) EOS 30V is the Elan 7EN which is a mild upgrade

In fact this - http://photonotes.org/lookup/ - is an interesting site to get info about bodies film or digital plus other things like lenses etc

My daughter is currently taking a photo class in college and we had the same dilema. 2 dslr's and plenty of lenses, but no film body. Went to Samy's camera here in L.A. and got a factory refurbished Rebel G body for $100. I'd get as cheap as you can find in a Canon film body, any of your ef lenses will work. Instructor didn't care about auto focus, etc. As long as you can manually set aperture, or shutter speed, that seems to be all that they are after. All of the cheap Rebel series have the same dial as on the dslr's with P, auto, Av, Tv. Actually, I was kind of surprised that they still used film in school, and in fact my daughter informed me that at her college they were phasing out film in 3 semesters, everything will be digital.

Elan 7N is a great camera if you can find it used for a decent price

I took a intro to photography course in college a few semesters ago. I took a while to decide between the Eos 3 and the Elan 7. I finally went with the Eos 3 and it's definately a great camera. If you don't plan on using film for anything beyond this class, save the money and get a Elan or a Rebel. I decided on the Eos 3 because I wanted to continue doing B/W film beyond the class I took just because I love the "feel" of the pictures I get compared to digital.
Anyway, I don't know if I actually said anything helpfull, I do tend to ramble once I get going, but good luck with the class, I know I had a ton of fun when I took it.

Cheers for all the reply guys.
I ended up getting a mint EOS 300 (rebel) with lens for £45 next day delivery of another forum.
I decided that for the meantime, as Thenethiel adviced, I could play with this for my college work and if I get into B&W film I could then upgrade and probably sell it on for not much less.
