Just got my A80 for only over a month and still trying to see what it can do (or what this photographer can do with it.. ha ha).

Was taking close up photos of flowers and was just setting up my camera in front of this lotus flower when I got lucky with this shot. I captured it in haste (taken at f/8, 1.3s, on a tripod, overcast sky) but I know I should have done better , e.g. less depth of field...?

All comments and criticisms are welcome. I hope I had set up my gallery properly and got the link above correct as this is the first time I am doing this kinda postings.

Yeah, I suppose you went too far with the aperture... in 1.3 secs the flower moved slightly due to wind and/or dragonfly therefore it's slightly unsharp...

Thanks for the comment. I keep thinking that I did not get the background sufficiently out of focus that something as fundamental as not getting the subject in sharp focus did not really weigh on my mind. There's a lot for me to practise simply just to get the basics right.

Why don't you simply read a photography related book that will teach you the basics?

Oh, I have read many books on photography. It's a lack of practice on my part. Its how much am I doing with what I know from all these books that I need to get right.

That (I am stating the obvious) comes from practice, practice and more practice, being my own critic and getting others to be my critics and the latter is what I hope I can get help with in this forum. I hope I can get my momentum going with regularly posting my photographs and getting others to comment and help me to improve.

Thank you for your feedback and I hope there will be more too.
