over the weekend, we went out with some friends to capitola. i took some photos of everyone. but after we came back, one of the lady said her arms looks fat (wide) from the photos. my wife said the same thing about her arms being fat (wide) as well.

i'm thinking perhaps it's the angle of the arms that's why it looks wide, since i'm shooting them head-on from the side.

how would you suggest shooting these ladies to prevent the side arms looking fat or wide?

lets see the offending articles

This is not my picture but the original artist had a radical method :-)

Well having not seen the images I can only give a suggestion. Whenever I pose women to be photographed I always tell them to make sure not to just hang their arms down. It pushes and widens the fat on their arms. I always tell them to hold their arms slightly away from their body so they don't squish.

ah.. good tip. but what about those candid shots? then it'd be hard to tell them to not do that.

i'll have a pic posted up shortly.. wify is sending one over in a bit.

ok... here is a quick photo of what i meant by the arms. in this photo, the arms wasn't pressed against the body. probably chloe was the one pressing against the arms though.

suggestions? advise?

whatever you do, NEVER shoot these ladies from behind!
you will have hell to pay from them...

bill.. how do you do that?
I opened it up in Photoshop. I went to Image/Image Size and saw that the width was 366 pixels. I made sure the constrain proportions box wasn't checked. I subtracted 10% (36) to get 330 pixels and put that value in the box. I clicked ok and that was it.

If you do it to the original before you crop for printing no one will ever know - but they will love the results.

Yea, a little sloppy I'm afraid. CS2 has a Liquify brush. I used a fairly large brush and just pushed the arm an thigh in on itself....

Hey, it's good enough for Katie Couric why not for the masses?
