Canon s50 is very cool and nice. i can take many nice photo from it. One thing is it's original NB2L battery is very sucks. A fully charge battery will finish its battery in just an hour if i on the LCD and take photo. One question from me is anyone using s45 , s50 or other canon camera using NB2L having the same problem?
I just want to know how you guys' NB2L perform? is it short life also? i know this is a stupid question, but i really wanna know it.

I found that it took a couple of charge/discharge to get to a full working life. They also don't like cold, and tend to appear to discharge quickly.

I have to add that when your camera is new. the internal battery of the camera (for the date) also draws it charge from your main batteries.... adding to the drain.... try to use the camera a few more times, make sure you completely drain the batteries the first few times. eventually the batteries will hold more power.....

This is true... i have removed the battery when i dint use the camera to make sure that there is no draining of the battery. Now i still think my battery got abit problem, because it is last faster then other people's battery. May be it is normal, s50 consump alot of battery, but there is no s50 user try to reply my message help me. :(

I've got a S30 camera since one year and I must say that the camera performs very well except for the battery charge. My average using time is about 90 minutes (+ or - 50 shots with flashes with the LCD on or 80 without flashes).
The only way out is to buy and extra battery. Since the charger takes about 90 min to recharge its generaly OK.
My son got and Olympus camedia with 4 AA rechargable batteries and the charges last at least 2 to 3 times longer.

I have an S45 which I assume has the same amount of battery drain as the S50. I purchased a pair of UltraPower replacements batteries that have a higher output rating than the OEM Canon (read as made in China) batteries. Those things ROCK! I get about 1-1/2 times the amount of use between charges with them. Plus, they are wayyy cheaper than the Canon batteries (read as, uh hemm, RIPOFF).
It's also a load of crap that generic batteries are bad for your camera. There is the same chance of a generic battery exploding/failing as an OEM battery as long as you stick with some of the mainstream generic brands, which are mostly made in China/Taiwan to CE standards.

I just bought a used Canon S30 and picked up a 2nd battery for $13. I haven't used it extensively enough to know how long it lasts but it seems at least as good as the original. At that price, get a couple.

I also picked up an AC adapter ($16) and a case ($10).

I'm using S50 too and mine can take up to 100-120 pics with a battery.I have a spare battery though.
Make sure you dont keep the battery in the camera if you are not using it. It will drain the power from the battery.
