This was shot past weekend while kayaking in the Algonquin P.P. in Ontario. I love to spend as many days as I can in that park in the fall. I like how the sun brakes the clouds a bit and shines on the colored up trees while still leaving some parts in the cloud shadows.

This is so sweet. I assume you have darkened the clouds (postprocessed, not using filters) to get this special feeling more visible, right, Tom?

Very nice. I like the contrast of the dark clouds vs. the fall colors.

Lovely shot, although I think the pp on the sky is a little overdone
You've got some amazing shots in your gallery too . . .

Thank you all for looking. I used a CP and 2 stop split ND filter on the clouds to bring them out a bit more. In pp i did the standard levels, curves etc. Glad you like it.

It's a great shot Tom
The only thing putting me off slightly is the slight halo effect surrounding the main tree most likely caused during Shadow/highlight PPing.
Other than that it's a cracker, great composition throughout :)

I think this is a good example of composition for people. One of the biggest mistakes made in taking pictures of fall colors is that people tend to think in terms of waiting for "peak colors." This shows why that's not always best.
Here the colors play very well contrasted against the greens, but even more so, the colors accent and enhance the foreground rocks attracting the viewer's attention. If this had been a "peak colors" pictures with all the trees blazing (disregarding the pines), the trees would have overdominated the picture and completely obliterated the fantastic colors and textures in the rocks. If you're in an area about to get hit with fall colors, don't wait for the peaks. Some of the best shots can be made with only a spattering of colors.
