hi...

I can not get my speedlight 430ez to "fire" when my D30 is in auto mode (green sqare)

Why is that ? is it a software problem on the D30 ?

Canon EOS digital D30 camera uses E-TTL mode for flash.

Any Canon xxx-EZ flash does not do E-TTL, therefore, they are not compatible (except for possibly manual operation).

So, for a Canon EOS digital camera such as D30, you should consider a Canon xxx-EX flash unit (or anything completely compatible with E-TTL). The two that come to mind are the 550EX and the 420EX.
