Howdy,

Well, gotta say it was a disappointment to me to not have anything other than the 400D announced. I think the 400D is a great entry level choice, but in terms of where I upgrade to from my 350D I just can't justify any of Canon's current choices, either due to the money required (1d*) or the competition (of which the Pentax K10D seems to be leading the way).

Here's hoping a 40D or a 1D-aps-c isn't too far off for Canon.

imm fairly confident that there will be at least a replacement for the current 1DN/s in this march. as for the 40D, could come out in march, could be a whole other year. As for the competition, a lot of them look great on paper, but even if i didnt have the extensive lens collection i have, i still wouldnt move. Canon really has the best noise control of any camera currently out, and they have a great spread of lenses and accessories, whereas many of these new SLRs only have a few lenses, that are rebuilds of other companie's lenses. Canon has seemed to take its time, and not add too many features in its recent SLR releases, but i think a full force upgrade to the 20D and 1series cameras arnt that far off (within a year).

New 40D, maybe between now and a year from now. New 1D with an APS C sensor, never.

Cabin fever is starting to set in.

Go outside and take some pics man. There are people out there saving money and working extra jobs to afford the camera you already own, with aspirations ot be the next great photographer.

Photokina is not quite over but if they were to have a blockbuster announcement I think they would have made it by now.

I fail to see why people are upset. Canon has always stayed fairly true to their traditional timelines and that meant that this show they had nothing to bring forward in the DSLR prosumer or pro level cameras. They have these timelines so that they can get a return on the investment that they make in each of the models. If, for the sake of argument, they bring in a new body that would replace the 30D which has only been around since March, do they really realize a return on what they have invested in it.

The current cameras that they have do a good job. I'm sure that they realize that there are a few cameras out there with new features that some of the consumers will find appealing. There is always a risk in bringing something new to the market as opposed to waiting out the competition to bring in something even better down the road.

I'd really like to hear from all those that said they had such great inside information that the new releases was going to make our heads spin. In the end they were nothing more than rumors that got everyone all excited.

In reading over allot of the rumor threads one of the overwhelming themes was give us a new camera body with all the features of the 1 series and more at the price of a XT. While it is admirable to dream, I hardly think that Canon is about to dilute the 1 series body sales opportunities by offering the options of this body in a lower priced one.

A APS-C in a 1 series. God I hope never. I like the segmentation that Canon has between the prosumer and pro bodies. If you want one of the higher end cameras, slap the cash on the counter and get one.

For all of those that are disappointed, how many of you were actually going to upgrade. My guess it would be a small percentage.

Now we can start all this over in anticipation of the March show.

I agree completely with the above. As far as I'm concerened my current 20d's are still rocking and provinding great income. It's not always in the tools if you know what I mean. Canon has not missed the boat at all. They have great products and are still ahead of the other competitors as far as image sensors in my opinion

The stuff I'd like to see in a new body is 30D +:
* auto-iso (i.e. set shutter/aperture and iso is adjusted first within a user specified range, then either shutter or aperture)
* anti-dust
* weather sealing (elimination of onboard flash is fine)
* built in battery/portrait grip
* any incremental improvements otherwise (particularly related to autofocus)

I'd call that a mini-1D in some respects, or a 40D in others. I can't see why you'd care if they made a 1D with an APS-C sensor? Seems like that would open up some lens choices as well as bringing the price down some. Certainly I can understand why _Canon_ might not want to do that (considering that some pros choose the 20d/30d now), but last I checked this business was about what the consumer wanted.

For all of those that are disappointed, how many of you were actually going to upgrade. My guess it would be a small percentage.

I'm planning to upgrade bodies before next motorsports season (by April or so). Part of that decision is going to be how much cash I have to slap on the table. I can guarantee it won't be enough to get either of the current 1D options, though apparently those types of problems don't concern you.

I am over for hoping that Canon will come out with something new this year...I just want the fall rebates to start to make me happy again and for me to forget that they didn't come out with anything new.

The 40D will come out about 18 months after the 30D came out.

Yes, and therefore it doesn't count. Needs to be there full time.

Seems timeliness and features have been skewed, lesser lines having some special additional features, upside down "moveupability" lol, my own new word, and difficulty in deciding buying lesser camera with maybe better features. Canon understands their quandary, I'm sure, and will upright the ship soon. What an exciting time for everyone who enjoys new technology. We truly live in exciting times, unfortunately, the world is not improving as quickly as technology.
