The wife and I are going to Paris in early January. We will be staying at a hotel in the city center, not far from the Eiffel and other landmarks. We would like and appreciate any tips from anyone who has been there, or lives there for that matter on what to see, what not to miss, time of day to visit, where to go for the best vantage points, etc. We are really looking forward to this trip, it'll be the first with the DRebel and I am sure we'll be returning with some exceptional photos of a beautiful place.
We realize the weather in Paris this time of year isn't the best (business trip), but weather can often add to the photos. We just really want to take advantage of other photographers experience to get the best shots we can while we are there.
Thanks

It must be nice when business takes you to Paris. My next business trip lands me in Austin.
No offense intended to all y'all Texans . . .

Visit the normal tourist sites Eiffel tower, Notre Dame, Louvre, Sacre Coure, etc. if it's your first time. If you don't go to the museums, you can get to most of the stuff in a couple of days. Take the Metro to get around, the thing is just so efficient and easy.
While visiting the Notre Dame there is another cathedral within walking distance. I think is called the cathedral of glass. It's worth taking pics in there. Remember no flash.
And for a different perspective, go to the top of the Mont Parnasse Bldg. They have a viewing deck with a great view of Paris. You might as well visit the cemetary while youre there.
Paris is a great place to photograph it can take years. So plan your trip and bring a lot of memory cards and batteries. Remember power plug adapters if you are going to bring your laptop or chargers. Concentrate on the tourist sites first since when you come home to view the pix, it's easier to explain to friends and family.
Have a great trip.

There are two companies that run double decker tour buses. Sorry can't remember the names of them but one is red and the other is lime green buses. I've always used the latter. I'm not sure if they run in January but I would think they would run partially. You pay one price and you can get off and on as often as you like.
They hit all the tourist spots and in a couple of days you can see a great percentage of what you want.
My favorites were the Eiffel tower (of course) and Notre Dame Cathedral. Lots of other good places and tough to fit it all in unless you have alot of time.
Enjoy

Hi!
suggest you visit fodors.com. More appropriate for your request since they have an 'ask fellow travelers...' section where you can ask your questions if you didn't find the answer yet, especially after reading the trip reports from other travelers.
Enjoy the trip but prepared... weather might be cold.

If one museum - one only: Go see the Musee d'Orsay. It's a (relatively) small museum, near to the Seine. It is a former railroad station. Beautiful place.
