I'll be shooting the Minnesota Goldrn Gophers vs. the Michigan Wolverines football game Saturday from the sideline . Last year I shot the game when Ohio State came to Minnesota. For that game I rented a 400mm f2.8 IS, but there are no big lenses available for this week-end.

The light is not very good at the Metrodome so I am on the fence about using my 1.4x on my 70-200 f2.8 IS or trying to stay close to the action without the converter. Last year at f2.8 and ISO 800 my shutter speeds were around 1/500th for most shots.

Any suggestions for shooting a game without big glass?

Plenty of great shots get taken at ISO 1600, even 3200 with 1DmkII's. You have pro level gear...don't be afraid to use pro level settings.
