My high school teacher that i had last year is getting married this Saturday at 2:00 in a church. I thought it might be a nice idea if i took pictures of the wedding for our school's newspaper, so i asked him and he gave me the go - ahead. The church has a choir loft, so i'll most likely be shooting from there. I took a few tests shots in the church this past Sunday night, and the angle is pretty good. The equipment i'll be using, though not much and all i have at the moment while i await my 30D, is the G6, the accessory lenses, and a 430 EX. I'll be shooting it free hand, since there's something wrong with my tripod at the moment. I'll also be able to take pictures of them coming down the aisle and out the church also. I'm just asking if anyone has any tips and ideas for me while i get ready for this. Thanks!

Good luck. If they let you use flash you might be ok. It can save your butt with a less than spectacularly light sensitive camera/lens/what-have-you.

Are you the main guy or the "get what I can" guy? Hopefully the latter...so you can shoot what you can and otherwise just enjoy the wedding.

matt, i shot my cousin's wedding with my G6 + 430EX + lightsphere II. except mine was outdoors, so the flash was ok. not sure about if you can do it in the church though.

but using your G6 inside the church might be tricky without flash. use iso200, more than that, you'll need to deal with noise. and when in doubt.. shoot in P mode and even set the G6 to AEB & rapid fire. This way, you'll bound to get some good shots. Oh.. and shoot in RAW.

Thanks for the tips guys. Yea, i'm just the 2nd hand guy, my teacher isn't expecting something from me, but i am thinking of getting my best shot printed and given to the newlyweds as a little present on my part.

That sounds like a good idea and a nice gift. :)

You don't necessarily need a tripod to keep the camera steady. Use a bean bag or just rest it against something while you shoot. I don't know how bad the noise might get on a G6 but if it's not too bright...turning up the ISO may not be a good option.
