Looks like she's checking if it 'diet' or 'low sugar' :-) - Nice shot.

Have you looked at it in black and white?

Very sad indeed, good capture of reality. I second the B&W image suggestions as well.

Just a quick edit to b&w/slight duotoneing to suite everyones request for a b&w

Convert via channels w/ alot of the blue channel to give it a grunge look
Convert to greyscale
Convert to duotone medium light brown/pinkish as the highlights and black as the shadows w/ custom curves on the duotone, more black in the shadows and a "s" shaped curve for the highlights

one thing I forgot to do would be either a dark vingnette or a light vingnette via Filters>Distort>Lens Correction

Good shot

Nice capture. The B&W version makes the photo look really old. The old busses and Chrysler in the background add to that feel.

Here is my version....I like the shot.

Thank you all for your comments & suggestions. I have tried it in B&W and personally I like it better in color. I think the carnation flower is lost in B&W and to me it is an element that adds to the image. Not a great shot but to me its a keeper.
Thanks again.
Jeff

I like your photo, but prefer the B&W and Taygull's version more than the original. What would be awesome would be perhaps all B&W EXCEPT for your carnation. I am the forum PS idiot, so perhaps someone else could show that style...

I gave a selective color B&W + Noise + Vignette a go:

The cool thing about art is it is subjective.

I'll be honest I did not even see the carnation..now I might play around with this photo this weekend but for me what draws in the viewer is the lady, the trash can and her intense stare at the bottle.

Chris,
True. Those drawing points are naturally intuitive and given and stand on their own. The fact that you didn't even notice the carnation shows this technique drew a response to something beyond what was on your radar..

I didn't see the carnation either until you said you wanted to see only the carnation in color. I saved the pic, opened it and looked for awhile thinking "ok where the hell is the carnation?" :)

Although I did notice it, It was OP Photogjeff who really directed my attention to it. It sounded like it was the only element that he didn't like in B&W, hence my suggestion. The more I look at the different versions I really like yours the best.

I'm guilty of skimming. I missed Jeff's mention of the flower.

What about using the black and white but returning color to the carnation?

Edit: didn't see the second page until after I posted...never mind
