I'm scanning 2000+ slides, oldest are 50 years old. The first 2 cubes are Kodachrome and are filthy. I bought PEC-12 from a camera store and the instructions say cleaning with be "instantaneous" and do not rub/scrub the film. I tried this and then re-scanned and though it had no effect. Then I noticed what looked like smeared dirt, realizing that the slide was filthy and the dirt was extremely caked on. Now I go through 2 or 3 cleaning attempts for each slide and the center areas come remarkably clean compared to the start, but the edges are just more difficult and I'll end up with clone/heal afterwards. The detail is not affected by all the cleaning.

All these slides are in the same large closed box and the Ectachrome slide visually do not appear to have this amount of dirt. Is there something to olde Kodachrome slides that "attract" more dirt than Ectachrome"?
