I got some money for Christmas and I am looking at a Canon 50mm f1.8 II because I need a low light indoor lens. I was on e-bay and noticed that one person was selling this lens with a "metal mount". Does the 50mm f1.8 II have a plastic mount?? Does anyone have a picture of the mount. I change lenses a lot, will I have to worry about wear if it is plastic?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

The II series is a plastic mount. I have one. It works fine. Don't worry about it. If it wears out, spend $70 and get a new one. I'm sure it'd take years a years to wear out.

I'd second what RFM just said.

I have one. It works fine. And the price is definitely right!

try www.keh.com. I wonder if a 50mm 1.4 would be better.

Yeah, probably. And at almost 5 times the price. The 1.4 is not 5 times the lens as the suprisingly sharp 1.8.

If it's a metal mount, then it's probably a Mk1.

I agree. The palstic mount version won't wear out in a hurry.

The metal mount version is indeed the first version. It also has depth of field and distance scales,so some poeople buy them for all these points.Expect to pay much more than the new priceof a II version for a secondhand 1st version!
