We are all photographers whether for fun or profit and take pics of others all the time. But what about pictures of you? During a weekend outing, my wife asked to take my picture. She is not usually the photographer so this took me aback for a bit but I handed over the camera and she composed the shot, posed me, and snapped away. When we viewed the pictures at home she was very happy with the result and wanted one printed. I, on the other hand, had a different reaction.

The camera does not lie, yea, I know PS does, but I was viewing the RAW file J but I did not like the pics nearly as much as she. So, for fun I though I would poll other P.O.T.N members and get their take.

How do you feel being the subject of a picture?

I've had a few shots taken of me while I was out shooting with other people. It honestly doesn't bother me one way or the other but I never like the shots that I see. I just don't take a good picture. I would much rather be on the other end of the camera.

I don't like me from some angles but I really do from other angles - I rarely have photographs of me as is typical of most photographers, I think, and my friends have ooodles of shots of them :p

With the advent of digital cameras I've taken enough self-portraits to figure out that I do look good from some angles ;) I wouldn't call myself photogenic by any means, however I don't really mind all that much :)

I hate it. But it's because I'm uncomfortable with my appearance, not because of the camera. When I was younger/thinner, I was a total camera ham! ;)

I hate it also, I just don't like how I look in pictures... they all seem fake, like I am forcing myself to smile too much. This is the best image I have ever seen of myself, it was last year.

I guess this sums it pretty well for me. I don’t really hate getting my picture took, but I don’t like seeing the pictures.

:D But you have such a wonderful smile.:D

Love that shot above!

Sari, Dave, Tom and I met in May and Sari refused to be photographed and we respected that. Some people feel terribly uncomfortable. I never did as a young thing, but now, I don't really mind, but I'd rather be behind the camera. I feel sorry for anyone that is being stalked. It's an awful feeling to think someone is taking a picture of you picking your nose or something. :)

It's difficult to convince others to have their photograph taken if I insist that my photograph is not allowed. That said, I'm much, much, much more comfortable behind the lens.

It's an awful feeling to think someone is taking a picture of you picking your nose or something. :) That's the least of my worries. I suffer from chronic wedgie syndrome which explains why I walk backwards most times for fear of being in someone's view finder :) :)

If I'm holding my baby granddaughter, anyone can take a photo of me and I don't mind. If it's just me by myself, I don't care for it so much, but I don't complain.

Keep those blasted things out of my face!!

I am an old, fat, homely person who is infinitely more comfortable behind a camera than in front of one. Fortunately, I am so ugly, most normal people are not tempted to take my picture, so it has never really been a big problem for me.

The only time I'm not uncomfortable with a camera pointed at me is when I'm taking self-photos. I don't consider myself bad-looking, but I am completely unphotogenic. This is true of a lot of asian faces, the two dimensional-ness (not a word I know) of photography often doesn't make good use of the kind of curves asian features have.

I tried to be gracious suzy.. I did. I really did.. Okay, here's the awful truth.. I bought my first camera as self defense. If I was behind it I wouldn't be in front of it.. I can't ever remember a time when I was comfortable in front of the camera.. we can blame my mom who never took a photo of us that I can remember and I went about fifteen years in between a photography studio visit. We can also say that I don't much like my face or my looks. I'm not a troll. I've been told often enough, mostly by friends and family who love me that i'm reasonably attractive. We can also say that it might be a self concioius thing.. I turned down one apartment that I was offered because it had an entire wall dedicated to a mirrror.. But, mostly it's the whole posing, trying to look natural having somebody or a few folk's undivided attention focused directly on me has always made me incredibly uncomfortable. The only person who takes pictures of me that doesn't drive me nuts is my seven year old niece.. ofcourse. I have control over all of her photos and I can happily delete everything with my face...

Same here. I can take good photos of myself, but no one else can seem to do so. The only exception is my 11 year old, who does a pretty decent job.

I don't care if someone else takes my pic, as long as I know I am having my picture taken. :) And they get my good side ;)

Right.... I can get good pics of myself... but when people try with their 3 megapixl kodak point and shoot, i look like a white ghost or something crazy cuz they dont konw how to use a camera!!!!!

You must be exceptional. For most of us, the lower the resolution, the better we look. At 16.7 megapixels, you can see the warts and everything.

At 640 X 480, we all look pretty much alike.

Yes thats true...
I guess people are more worried about pro cameras showing that one tiny tiny embarassing freckle on their chin!!
All you have to do is take an out of focus shot with a cheesy point and shoot, and then you look kinda like tom cruise.:p :p
