I spent a very enjoyable day at the Pretoria zoo and only then realized that photographing animals, even in a zoo, is not as easy as some might think.

It is hard to photograph a zoo animal...because it's hard to make that eye contact so needed in an excellent shot, when they are pacing or doing that "zoo" behavior. Nice shots however... :)

Colors and exposure are pretty good, but there is too much zoo clutter in the background. I would have used a shallower dof to add some bokeh or at least waited until that other elephant was out of the way.

I can see how it's a bit difficult. All you can really do is move around the enclosure to get then angle better or come back slightly later and hope they've composed themselves for you.

Or just wave a bun around and hope they spot it and come over to you...
