Best way to print in Photoshop?

When getting ready to print in Photoshop CS2, I use the box that "reduces to scale" to print a 4 x 6 photograph.

Would it yield better results to reduce the actual size of the pixels to 1200 x 1800 (300 per inch) instead before printing a 4 x 6?

I always use 'Image', 'image size', or the crop tool and input 4" x 6" @ 300ppi (for a 4 x 6 print anyway) usually followed by a little sharpening.
