FastStone allows you to batch convert. It's a free software:

But there are numerous others.

I read the OP differently. He has a series of pictures he wants to make A gif. I am guessing he wants to make an animated gif out of a series of pictures rather than a simple convert photo to gif... Thats how it reads to me.. I have been known to be wrong many times a day though :)
BTW peter.. faststone image viewer is what I use.. brilliant software and supports raw. use it when out and at home. It is free.. but I donated and got the best thank you email I have seen :)

Hi
I have used unFreez from www.whitsoftdev.com you need to save the individual files as gif and unfreez makes them into an animated gif
