From the B&H Website at: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=NavBar&A=getItemDetail&Q=&sku=12129&is=USA&si=feat#goto_itemInfo

This high-performance lens was designed with portability and handling ease in mind. One super UD-glass element, whose characteristics are similar to fluorite, and one UD-glass element result in sharp pictures. The lens also has a built-in hood and a detachable tripod mount.

Even the Canon web site says that it comes with the tripod ring. That B&H quote is actually direct from Canon's website.

What makes you think that it doesn't come with it?

well if you say so, for some reason I thought it did not, good, thanks

now I wish B&H would get one in now that I can afford it

Go to that very same link and select "Notify me when available" and they'll email you when they get it in.

BTW: It comes with the hood too.

Looks like Adorama has them in stock. And there's a rebate currently in effect.

Go to: http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?op=details&sid=1072570572390401&sku=CA40056AFU

If you go to Adorama, ignore the fact that they are offering a tripod ring as an accessory. It DEFINITELY comes with the tripod ring.

Yeah, Adorama freaked me out with my 70-200 saying the same thing. B&H correctly said the hood and ring comes with it, so B&H gets my business.

The most surprising lens that Canon sells without the tripod ring is the 70-200 f/4.0L. They sell the ring separately, and it's expensive.

The lens hood on the 400 f/5.6L is a telescoping unit that's permanently mounted to the lens.

Thos.

Actually, FYI, Adorama's website has EXACTLY the same description as B&H does: This high-performance lens was designed with portability and handling ease in mind. One super UD-glass element, whose characteristics are similar to fluorite, and one UD-glass element result in sharp pictures. The lens also has a built-in hood and a detachable tripod mount.

Ifurlong,
You might want to double check B&H's web site. I just bought the same lens last month from them. I to thought they were out of the lenses, but they were only showing that they were out of the gray market (cheaper) lenses. Also, they definately come with the tripod ring. Great lens IMHO.
