Sorry for the misleading topic, but not all that misleading. I saw where there was a "class" being offered in LA by an individual simply wanting to get together with some other XTi folks and exchange ideas. I live in the Sacramento area, and want to get an XTi but in order to move up from the Pro1, I really need some lessons, as all I seem to have mastered is the auto setting thus far. :o

I would love to get together with other XTi or Rebel users and exchange ideas, or I exchange my cash for your lessons. I would think a couple of hours of hands on would really get me past my learning block. I've purchased books and videos and have retained almost nothing, as I learn from hands on experience. If someone would like to have a get together like they did in LA, that would be great. If this looks like it might happen, I would go out and buy and XTi right away.

I live in the Sacramento area and just got an XTi. I've been reading and trying to shoot some HS football and u12-u16 soccer. I'm new to dslr and any type of processing. I had a point and shoot digital before. There is a swap meet at Action Camera this Sunday AM that I may check out. I am also interested in learning more about how to use my new camera.

A swap meet? I live in Fair Oaks, whereabouts is the meet and what is it? Thanks.

I wish that between us we had enough info to exchange, but sounds like we need a few more folks with more dslr experience, but thanks so much for responding. Just maybe we can get some interest initiated.

So how you liking your XTi? Seems like an awesome unit. You by it locally? I have been tempted by Costco online and their 30D unit, but figured since I know nothing, it would be a waste. I expect I will buy some really expensive glass also. Kind of like giving a rich four year old an airplane. I can't fly it, but I might look good in the cockpit. lol

As I said, I have been using the Pro1 for a short while and love the look and feel, as well as the great pictures, but want to learn how to use the different settings and all. For some damn reason, no matter how much I read, I don't retain the info. A mental block that I hope to hurdle with some hands on learning experiences. The thing in LA was really a cool idea. When I bought my first computer, a Mac, I joined a user group and it was very helpful. Unfortunately, I don't see the same concept in digital cameras.

Thanks for the swap thing info and if you have more info, I'd appreciate it. :)

Joe in Fair Oaks.

Action Camera is on the corner of Sunrise and Cirby. I've never been there. It starts at 8am Sunday. I bought my XTi somewhat impulsively from B&H. Saved sales tax. Might have bought a used 20d if I had it to do over again. I like the camera but the learning curve is very steep right now, so I do get a bit frustrated. I will shoot my son’s soccer game tomorrow AM for practice. Then it’s football Saturday Night. I’ve seen some good deals on Craig’s list locally for used stuff.

Thanks for all the info. I also sent an email to Action Camera.

Are you sorry you bought the XTi? You thinking about selling it and going with the 20D? Interesting. If the learning curve is the issue, is the 20D easier?

No the XTi is fine. I think I could have saved some money going used. It seems that a lot of good used stuff is around. I'm sure the learning curve would be about equal for me 'cause I've shot on auto till I got this camera.

I'm new to DSLR and I seemed to have picked up very fast in the last couple weeks. I'm already shooting manual. Just go buy a couple good books (Understanding Exposure - Bryan Peterson), play with your camera, read the manual and keep checking these forums.

I checked the local classes or something from Henry's ( A Canadian store who sells camera gear and offers classes for beginners) and you pay like $100+ for two sessions and learn what I've already picked up myself.
