Can I reset my file numbers so that it starts at a specific number, ie 5000?

If you have a CF card reader then simply create the correctly named folder and copy into it a suitable image file named one number before the one you want to start on. (See your manual for the details of the folder/filename convensions used by your camera)
I don't know how the S110 names folders/images but for the A series cameras you would create a 499CANON folder under the DCIM folder and put in it an image file called IMG_4999.JPG
Put the CF card back in the camera, turn it on, select file no reset and the next picture you take will be called IMG_5000.JPG in folder 500CANON.
Don't forget to turn off file renumbering after taking the first picture though!
