Can someone make me feel better about my 30D after I just read about the XTi with 10MP?

I feel a pang of envy.

I will send you a XTi for your 30D

30D, better build! spot metering! 5FPS

Do you really need those extra 2 mp??? Dust removal? Buy a rocket blower $10.

Love your 30D!!!!!

You can't feel 10MP in your hands. Unlike build and the godly rear wheel.

30>400D in every way

Megapixels are a whole different ball game in the DSLR world. An extra 2 megapixels really doesn't make that much difference. You have to look at the camera as a whole, and the 30D still comes out on top. I would never consider the 400D over the 30D for the reasons already stated above.

The XTi's size alone is enough to make me want to keep my 30D. That, and the command dial.

I had the 400D for a week and was never really happy with it. its seems to under expose and could be quite noisy over ISO400. It had a better screen than the 30D IMHO but i took it back and got a 30D yesterday and it a fantastic camera. It seems much better in the exposure dept and noise seems lower, even at ISO1600.
Plus i never wanted 10mp images and they were starting to hog my HD.

It's a whole different experience. Don't get wound up in marketing BS, just enjoy the 30D's significant benefits as a photographers tool.

You have to satisfy yourself.
If you don't like the 30D go out and buy the new introduction you type of.
Anyway the dials are larger on the 30D for larger fingers and difference in mega P's is not much as for automated sensor cleaning I can't bite on that.

This post from Dante (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2039991&postcount=6) contains a fairly thorough listing of the differences between the 20D and 350D. Most of those differences apply to a comparison of the 30D and 400D. I think it's worth checking out.

To put the pixel count difference into perspective:
An 8 x 12 print from a 30D would have a resolution of 292 pixels per inch.
An 8 x 12 print from a 400D would have a resolution of 324 pixels per inch.
So the 23% difference in pixel count yields only an 11% difference in final resolution. Keep in mind that anything over 300 ppi has no advantage in a print, and it's usually difficult to distinguish any difference beyond 250 ppi. For any prints smaller than 8 x 10, the additional pixels in the 400D will not provide any benefit to image quality.

Don't get caught up in the pixel count war.

I just find the Rebel's too small.its not that my hands are overly huge..
i just like a chunkier camera + Metal (30D) Vs Plastic (400D) go figure :P

Look at the difference in the size of the picture between the 10MP NIkon D80 and a 6MP Nikon D70, this is a 4MP difference and looking at 100% crops, see how much room to crop you get, if any. The diff between 8 and 10MP is even less, barely noticable.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/page24.asp
Here are 100% crops between 10MP Nikon D200 and Canon 30D. It's not a real significant difference, unless you are into pixel peeping (which btw will mak you go blind :) )
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos30d/page24.asp
Unless you are talking about atleast 4MP, the difference in image size is not that noticalbe. I wouldn't let the marketing BS get in the way of enjoyng the camera.

The fact that people will trade their 20D (8mp) for a 1D (4mp) shows you that it's really not all about megapixels.

I have to admit if I was buying my DSLR today, I would struggle to decide between the XTi/ 400d and a 30D. It was a much easier decision between the XT and the 20D! but to tell the truth, no regrets whatso ever, I just don't like rebels that much.

Be happy with your 30D. Otherwise you'll have to get a 5D ;)

I have both and much prefer the 30D in my hand any day, especially with larger lenses!
The XTi is somewhat built the same way as the XT, so the feel is very identical. I held the XTi in the store and it feels almost the same as my XT. Good for backup camera with smaller lenses, (For me anyways). My vote also has to be on the 30D!

I haven't ventured into DSLR's yet, though mind that I'm planning to as soon as I can. Should I take this thread as a good indication that I should pass up on the XTi and continue saving for the 30D?

The professional look and feel of the 30D wins the arguement for me!

Now some of us have a diffrent point of view and will kill for 2mp extra plus redused fps not to mention small light and a bit tricky to work without a thum weel and the 1.72 crop factor is going to be a Dream to play with ;) larger CF card's larger hard drive space AND a smaller bag to put it in

Thanks for the input everybody. I feel better now.

Agree with many who say the 30D is a pleasure to use. I love the feel of the camera.

Next week is fleet week in San Francisco...looking forward to taking pics of those jets...

I returned the XT, could have bought the XTi as it was already in stores, and decided to buy the 30D to give you an idea :).
