Alright, so Im an idiot. My cmaera is ALWAYS on RAW, so I figure it wouldnt have changed for the local show I shot tonight. WRONG. It was on Jpg(l). Now all my images are useless. Just great. Im really frusrated right now, it was a really really big show. Happen to anyone else?

Not up till now. I think my camera is stuck in M mode and I never do anything but RAW.

But you're right, I should check that before beginning to shoot.

so your saying your images are useless because you shot jpeg... are you that inept that you cant set white balance in camera? because lets face it, apart from being able to push the dynamic range a bit more thats the only other advantage of raw... i only shoot jpeg, i get it right in camera, and funnily enough i can take nice pictures!

I'm confused as to what the fuss is about. If the images are no good in .jpg....they weren't going to be any good in RAW. RAW gives you a bit of latitude....but it doesn't cure everything.

Well - RAW does give you a larger jpeg in the end. More basic info to work with in PP.

Nope, never happened to me. Why?
Because I shoot all my photos in M and jpeg only. I get the photo right with the camera instead of later with software. However you can fix most things you can in raw to a jpeg ex. white balance, exposure (contrast & brightness), color tones etc...etc...

Has happened to me but I realise after a few shots when I routinely check the top LCD and notice that my "shots left" number is 2-3x what the card will hold in RAW form :p I wouldn't describe them as useless, though - it just means that I can't compensate for minor errors I made at the time which can often be covered up a little anyway if you want to spend a bit more time in PS later. Gross white balance errors and whatnot aside, that is.

Useless because you shot JPEG? Huh? I got to agree with the others here, the photos weren't going to turn out anyways and I'm pretty sure white balance errors can be corrected even with a JPEG file, it just takes more work.

If you always shoot RAW why did you go into the settings and change it to JPEG? The camera can't do it by itself. I shoot most of the time in JPEG and set my WB and other things to get good pictures. If I shoot RAW it is usually because I thing I'll have trouble with WB. But even a JPEG you can tweak in PSE4 or CS2 and correct WB errors. I would say you must be crazy to believe your shots are ruined just because they are JPEG. Again, I'm curious how you changed to JPEG if you always shot RAW?

Let's try be polite here, stupot.

When I shoot raw I NEVER pay attention to my white balance. And I don't mind going to higher ISOs because it's so much easier to clean it up in PP. The JPEG discards way too much info if you're shooting tungsten instead of daylight.

It's not about ineptness. If you were to shoot raw for a while you'd undersand.

I often make this mistake after a test shoot. Whether I'm testing lenses or a light setup, I don't wanna fuss around in raw. So I switch to JPEG large to avoid the necessary PP.

Recently what I do when putting the camera away AND when picking it up, is set all the settings:
1) MLU off
2) Card in
3) card is clean
4) M goes to f/8 125
5) Av goes to 5.6
6) Tv goes to 125
7) ISO 100
8) AF on
9) Click a few frames to make sure the camera's alive

When I forget - mistakes happen.

Now all my images are useless.

Why ?! ....

I gotta agree with a couple of the other posters ...
If those images are useless as jpg's then I don't see how shooting in RAW would've made them useful .....
I know you can make manipulations on the RAW file - but you can make similar manipulations on a jpg file (but, and it's been pointed out, it just takes a little more work and a little more know-how ...).

But your statement is a pretty drastic one ....

I shoot both RAW and jpg - and I can "manipulate" a jpg file to look just like a converted RAW file .... so I totally fail to understand your statement ....

I was exgaterating when I got home. All the images are fine, and they look pretty good. However I was shooting a Venue that has about 10 different patterns of lights, and it would have been a great help to set the WB in PP. I was just really mad that I didnt check my camera. I set the Camera in Jpg b/c I was letting my girlfriend take pictures of me while driving and I didnt want to have to convert them to give them to her. But I forgot I did that, so I just starting shooting, forgetting I had done that and knowing my camera is 99% of the time on raw. O well, At least this wasnt a paid job, and I wil learn from my mistakes.

I bet you're never forget to check if you're in RAW ever again, sounds like a good learning experience to me.

I accidentally left mine on RAW & large jpeg once and wondered where all my memory went :o :o
