Hi,

First off this is from a real novices point of view, i hope its not a completely stupid question... i did a search but couldn't find a simple explanation, maybe there isn't one?

Tomorrow i want to try some long exposure shots, of creeks mainly but maybe also some wave action sorta thing, just experiment really.

My question is, i had a quick go outside and even at around 1 second it just blew out big time? At around 5 i think it was it was pretty much just white nothing. So what do i have to do to get a longer exposure without it becoming way too bright?

Thanks a lot in advance,

will

small apertures, and low ISO

if those arn't enough, try some ND filters.

I did mine in the evening when the sun wasn't intense. Is this what your looking for?

Thanks, but you can do this and better! Just a matter of shooting at the right time, and finding the right place. This was with the kit lens. So it's all up to you, be sure to post the results! ;)

its all about the time of day, go out at sunset:) ND's will help but if its bright midday sun you're still going to be blowing out whites...

dont forget your tripod, and experiment with lots of different shutterspeeds to get different effects, depends on the speed of the water.

Thanks for the help! :)

I have just posted a couple of shots in the Nature & Animals section. They are not amazing, but i was fairly pleased with them for my first attempt.
