I was just looking around on BH and it now looks like Sandisk is going for bigger cards! I am not willing to pay the $630 for the 12GB or the $850 for the 16GB card when I can purchase several cards for less than that. Also it leads into the possibly corrupt cards... Who would want to lose even 1GB of info, let along 12 or 16GB worth...
The release date is sometime in November. I just have a feeling the 1-4GB cards are just going to keep getting cheaper which is good! That's all I find myself needing anyways.
Crazy.... 16GB

I would like to get some 2-4gb cards but I'm not going to until they're about $20 each. Until then, unless I have a dire need I'll stick with my 1GBs and Hyperdrive. When 4GBs come at $20 apiece I'll get half a dozen and retire my Hyperdrive to a life as my laptop backup unit.

I shoot RAW with a 2GB card and a 1GB card as a backup and I rarely shoot more than 2GB.
Out of those, I only get about a half dozen keepers anyway. Better to make your shots count rather than trying to shoot a movie at 5fps and hoping you get a keeper in my view.
I think thses maybe more inteneded for Medium format cameras and maybe even movie on digicams/camcorder.

Perhaps I'm alone when I say this, but doesn't it get boring for some people even on a 2 or 4 gb card after a while of spraying? Even when your bracketting shots I think it's hard to go through 500 raw photos if your just shooting a morning sunrirse or something (I realise SOME wedding photographers do shoot several hundred photos.)

I whole heartedly agree. I say shoot less, just make them count.
Spraying and praying is for the birds. Even when I had the 1DMIIN, when I was shooting sports, I used one shot vs servo and just relied on timing instead of chance.

:).
I would think some photographers shooting sports spray so much that they could make a whole book of one player moving across the field or arena or whatever (heh, even maybe a video without sound, LOL.)

Well, if you've got a 39mp cam then it makes sense.
But then again those come with detachable mini HD's.

Probably the most exciting thing about this for most people here is that the availability of larger flash memory chips and the general driving down in price will reduce the cost of the 2GB and 4GB cards many of us are using.
I don't spray and pray - I very rarely move the camera into continuous drive, though, to be fair, I haven't yet got round to trying my hand at sports. I've shot church services and come away with 50 shots, of which 30 were keepers and the final selection was typically 8-10 shots (I believe in quality shots that tell a story, rather than the quality shots mixed in with a load of mediocre ones).
When I get round to buying some more cards, I'll probably buy 4GB rather than 2GB, partly with a mind to future cameras with larger file sizes than my 20D (I may just buy a 5D or the eventual replacement of the 5D in the future). That doesn't mean I have to fill them full, though. 2GB, with around 200 RAW shots from a 20D, works pretty well for me.
