I have a 256MB card and I have taken a total of 900 pictures deleting as I go. I recently took 100 pictures, so there is plenty of room on the card. However, today I tried turning it on and it said CF card error. It also takes awhile for the camera to come on and it first says CF Card Full and then it quickly says CF Card Error. When I try to use some recover software, it can't find my camera and when I try to connect the camera to the computer, it says no images. Can anyone suggest how I can recover these pictures???????? Please help!

Thanks!

Sorry, but I don't know what you can do unless maybe you get a card reader and then try your recovery software. A card reader makes things easier. You will avoid the camera/computer connection issue and the cf card will just be another drive.

How often do you format the cf card? My S30 manual says to format when you want to delete the images (or something like that-- I don't have it with me). I believe that when you format you assure yourself of the best possible file structure on which to store the images. After I download my images, I always format the card; it doesn't hurt it.

 Seems like I read something about FAT32 v FAT file systems and that formatting your card on XP will default to FAT32 which your camera may object to by saying "(something) error" or CF card full. You could somewhere in XP tell it to use FAT not FAT32 as the default (or choose that when formatting a specific card).

Maybe someone who has XP can verify that. I'm still using Win98.
(I'm frequently wrong)

are you getting an error code?
