Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM

This lense has everything i'm looking for right now. Do any of you guys/gals know if it's a good, quality lense?

I have taken many hundreds of photos with the IS version of that lens over the past few months. It is not an "L" series and doesn't perform like one. On the other hand, it costs far less.

In low light conditions I had difficulty getting very sharp results wide open. At f11 or so in bright light the lens performed quite well, especially at medium zoom. It is a fun lens to use and is relatively compact

I posted a couple deer photos on the "critique" forum that were taken with this lens if you care to look.

There are two other lenses you should look at if this range is appealing.

The IS version as mentioned by netadmin22,

...and the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX

The latter is in a slightly higher price range,. but it is also in a perfromance class by itself,. being a truly pro level 100-300.

I owned this lens a few years ago and it does very well, it isn't quite as good as the IS version or L glass (70-200 or 100-400) but then its a fraction of the price, certainly a great lens to get going with
