Greetings all,

I would like to enter the world of SLR-style digital photography, but I have one reservation: I am addicted to the eye-focus feature of my EOS-3 and A2E Canon cameras.

Does anyone know if Canon has any plans to produce a Digital SLR type product which includes this wonderful feature?

Any input on this topic is most greatly appreciated!

Regards,

I dont think that there will be one, not for the "pro" sld's. I belive that when you to the level of pro camera's its not really needed, the resaon why i say this is that because, if they were goign to ad it, i think at least they would have put it on the d30, or at least the d60, but no such luck, on a side note. I personally feel I am a better photogropher with out the eye control. I user to user it but then i stoped and it really made me concentrate more on my shots and compistion of them. Well that is my opion anyways.

Any thoughts about "eye" controlled focus for the digital age? My Elan (film) camera had this feature and worked quite well.

If Canon implements "Eye control focus" on any of thier new dslrs, I'll never upgrade again. I cant afford a divorce.

They haven't added it in the nine years since this thread started.;):)

Which is unfortunate for their stockholders, since it would make me firesale whatever I have now so I could afford an ECF model.

They had it on a film camera, the Canon EOS Elan IIe (e is eye control). According to the Amazon description:

"It is slightly different from the EOS Elan II in that it features eye-controlled focus. This allows the user to control the point of focus by looking at specific parts of the image; an onboard sensor follows eye movement and the lens automatically changes focus as the eye moves to points within the frame."

I remember because I had the non "e" version. IIRC there was a calibration that you had to do first.

Sorry, not me. I have a couple of Elan2e's Elan7's, and EOS3, and didn't like or use it in any of 'em.

Thanks but no thanks

I had an Elan IIe and the eye control worked pretty well. But the Elan IIe only had 3 AF points, so my guess is that eye control would be less accurate on a camera with more AF points.

The best part is the OP has only 1 post! I guess he wasn't too happy about the lack of eye controlled focus... He never came back.

The two things I have on my EOS 3 that I wish were on my 5Dii are eye control focus and automatic depth of field aperture control. They are both fabulous.

I have eye control in my EOS 30. Works very well. Would be even more valuable in a 7D, which has 19 points, not just seven, as in the EOS 30.
