What finger do you shoot with?

I wouldn't be steady enough with my middle. I use the right index, as most do.

As dumb as this poll may seem, it did make me stop to think for a sec. I'm one of the "normal" blokes that press the shutter button with my trusty index finger. I wanted to choose the "this is a dumb poll" option, but I felt that it wouldn't be fair for the o.p.

Right index, but not with the tip of my finger - I use the area under the first joint.

Does that make sense? It's just more stable and sensitive that way.

Right index... though now I'm going to try the second finger just to see how it feels :) Never really thought about that, its just how my hand falls naturally.

What Mizuno said - the area under the joint of the index finger. If I used my middle finger I wouldn't be able to support the weight of the camera with the last two; as it is, I have to be careful if I'm using the 24-70 with the 30D because my middle and ring fingers get sore. Maybe it's time for a new fitness fad - the finger gym...

Well proper camera technique obviously says we are supposed to "use" our pinky. But in this new day in age as matthewlrigdon shows us, keeping your pinky "up'" is now acceptable.
