Can anyone advise.

I'm a new user of a Canon D30 and am trying to link in a SIGMA 600mm lens (F8 FIXED).

My results,( according to Breezebrowser detail) when I use Av setting say that I've F1 ! .
I can't set the aperture to 8 when using "manual" setting - the aperture in the LCD panel sits at 00.

What settings should I use oor how can I ensure I am using the camera/lens combination correctly ?
thanks

As you've found, you can't set the aperture on the camera - there is no communication between the lens and camera.
It should do just fine in Av mode, it will work out what shutter speed to use immediately before the shutter is tripped.
If you want to use Manual mode, I "think" you need to use an external meter and set the shutter speed that the meter tells you for f8, ignoring the aperture setting on the camera.

At least digital is cheap for experimenting - and the instant feedback is darned handy too!
