These days, when I order prints from a couple different places, their company name is inkjetted on the backs of the prints, along with the date and filename.

I've seen other pros have their studio name inkjetted there, but that was a long time ago, and in fact, it was when they would print R {x} P {y} (roll x, print y} for reference.

Anyone know which labs will let me customize the inkjetting?

IIRC Costco lets you choose either the file name, nothing, or a custom name.

too bad I don't have one of those here yet.

and would I really want © my studio on the back of a print from costco? (are they good enough prints to sell?)

Can't help you with the lack of Costco stores in your area, but in regards to the prints I have been impressed as well as dissapointed. I tried two different methods and got two different results. I need to do some tweaking to figure out what went wrong, as I am sure it was me and not them that made the error.

On the other hand if you are looking for a smaller, local lab, rather than a national lab, which you seem to have a problem with Costco, then you might get a limited response based upon where you live.

One of the reasons I use a pro lab is the lack of markings indicating the printer name on the image. Customers know about how much an image costs to print, but it doesn't help if they can see you paid $0.30 and charged them $5. My pro lab also has Kodak paper which says "professional images are subject to copyright" on the back - which of course you can't see in the print, just on the back.
