This lad is the new German coach that they have brought in, If the play is not any use then at least he provides some entertainment. I though I should clam down from time to time braking clip boards and kicking thinks about but this guy makes me look like the most laid back person ever! can't believe he was still in the hall at the end of the game!

The light was really bright but harsh aswell, got my head spining on my f-stops and shutter speeds! I was also not in the right position to shoot I was hoping to get courtside seats but they don't sell them on game days so I was in normal seating. I will hopfully get courtside next time (Next sunday hopfully!) or I might try and get my 70-200 in :suspect: would be just the ticket in there.
C&C very welcome.

I think they look pretty good. Need to fix the WB though. And oh, don't forget the image posting rules of max 8 embedded pics in a thread.

Good looking shots, I like #7 best

Now I'm not even sure about the WB... I used a different computer yesterday... might be the screen calibration on that one...

Was at this game myself, but my Kit lens didn't do anything for me, looked like I was miles away.

Like your photos the Slam Dunk #7 shot is my favourite. Also like #10.

What lens did you use for these shots??

manual exposure mode would help a bit in these shots if you think the light was consistent throughout the court... and it appears to be (if you really got flustered over the sudden changes in shutter speed)

Hi Rezarf,
thanks for the comments. I was using my 85mm 1.8 lens on my 20D was just right from where I was. It was ashame that the benches, coaches and table were infromt of me I had to cut off heads and what not. Were you infront of me at all? I was just behind the guilford coach about four or five rows back?

The light changing all over the court was what sent my head spining! I also used a bigger depth of field than I would normally use because of the strong light and I've noticed that if I focus on somthing from a bit futher back at f2.2 (thats my normal) its not in focus so trying to sort that aswell I ended up all over the place! iso1600@ 1/500-1000 f3.5

i'de say use f2.8 next time, 70-200 is sharp enough wide open, and 1/500th of a second shutter speed should be fine for jumps. guess what, that means iso 800 instead of 1600. if you are using the 85, again, shoot wide open, now you're down to 1/640th shutter and iso 400. shots look a bit over exposed, tune it down 2/3rd stop. now you are at 1/1000th of a second, dof is great, and much less noise. in this case, i'de tell you to use M mode and wide open, with 1/1000th shutter and iso 400 if you use the 85, or iso 400 and 1/500th if you use the f2.8 (will overexpose a bit on 85, which you fix in raw, and should be just right on 70-200). happy hunting ;)

I was to your right just behind the guilford coaches and 5 rows back.

It would be ideal if you could get the seats behind the hoop or on the side lines (opposite side of the coaches) for better shots, then you wouldn't need to cut them out.

Or even better have free roam of the court like those other 2 photogs.

I had asked for courtside seats but they woulden't let me have them! I think they were basicly saying "your camera looks bigger and better than the ones our own photographers have!" :D

you all must have been sitting just behing me by the looks of the pictures. I have been going to see the rocks since the start of last season, although i have never bothered to take the camera with me.

This years team looks OK, but not as good as last years, i just hope they start to gell a bit better.

That was my first game, I know Chris Dodds and Gareth Murray so it was good to see them in their day jobs!
