Secret Compartment time
Thought to muh self, it'd be nice to be able to store a CF card "in-camera" so that if I left everything else and just grabbed my camera (no bags, wallets or pouches for whatever reason) I'd have at least a little extra storage along. Something along the lines of how the 10D battery cover is stored in the BG-ED3 when the grip is installed...

I did a quick search through the forum (very quick. in fact I might not have searched at all) and didn't see any references to this "feature". Any of you Old Salts already know you could do this?

I would never admit to grabbing my camera without a CF card. Kinda like grabbing an unloaded gun to defend your house. But this would idiot proof your camera, just don't loose your battery door.

I have a completely different approach. (Nearly always) I keep my D60 in a padded holster case with a shoulder strap. I purchase one of the little Lowepro memory card wallets, and it attaches with velcro onto the strap. The wallet holds 4-10 CF cards, which is my entire collection for 2.5GB.
So, virtually everyplace that I have my camera, I have my entire memory card collection.
When shooting a wedding, I cannot afford to be "down" for more than 20 seconds or so, so I keep the replacement cards very handy.

Oh man... you guys had to go and bring up the battery cover.... So, anyone know the part number of that thing!?
Yeah, I've thought about that. 1\ I keep it in my bag (as religously as robertwgross keeps his CF Wallet on hand ;)). 2\ Since I've bought the BG-ED3, the only time I've taken it off for shooting is when I've tripod mounted and I didn't like the 'plastic' instability when mounted. Otherwise I don't know that I'll suddenly find myself thinking "Holy manhole covers Batman, where'd I put my battery cover!?" The BG-ED3 lives on my 10D.
C'mon GenEOS, I won't tell anyone - honest. You've grabbed your gun to defend your house and left the ammo inside.
Have you all entirely missed the "Mission Impossible" background music and super secret storage compartment coolness!? This is a GOOD FIND I tell you! LOL!!
-EDIT-> And I do keep 2GB of CF's w/me at almost all times. Just happened to be thinking one day as I grabbed just my camera and rushed out the door... What if?.... ....

ROFLMAO! I cracked up when I saw this subject. I just recently parked my battery covers into their newly discovered garages. I couldn't imaging keeping a CF card there. Well, maybe the free one from Canon, but I ALWAYS check for CF cards before I run out the door.

I've never gone without a CF card.. But I forgot a battery once..
When I first got my 10D I only had the battery it came with. I took the camera out one day and found that I left it home in the charger :(
I carry four in my kit now :)

I'll never forget my CF after the last time, I missed the most valuable shot I would have ever taken!! :(
I've managed to end up out in the field with 2 nearly dead batteries througha bit of poor planning, so I just kept swapping them, used manual focus, no IS and *just* managed to get a few shots :D :D
Since these incedents I have never got it wrong, best way to learn to double check is forget one day!
Nice compartment. I think I'll stick my spare 128 there :D
If I am going out no more than a couple of hours I only take one fully charged battery and stick a couple of spare CF cards in the second battery compartment. I've got an old bp511 that died so I took the innards out of that, chopped one end off, and put some foam in there specifically for storing CF cards.

Hey, that's a pretty cool idea Richard! Hmmm, wonder how long I have to wait for one of these suckers to die :p. Now that's the kind of innovation we're looking for here people... None of that "Never leave home w/out it" stuff :D

If you ever find yourself in a situation where some authority is demanding your card full of pics, just keep one in there and hand it over! Call it the throw down card compartment.

Yes, I keep a 16MB CF card for that purpose.

This is all well and good, but to access it you need to undo the battery grip and you are down and out for the time you are futzing with it. No juice to 10D means no work! I like the idea though. You got me thinking, what about something that attaches where the tripod would and is a CF wallet? If you can't come up with something original, build on some other person's idea.

Good point about being down while accessing the grip. The way I look at it, it's more of a bonus regarding "Just in Case" scenarios or simply not wanting to carry other than the camera rather than a solution for "on the fly/paid shoot" CF changes.
Heh heh, for kicks I tried a few CF "Quick Changes" from the installed BG-ED3 and my best time was 14 seconds from Power off to First shot capability. I imagine I could shave a few more seconds off but carefully seating the CF and holding the gear properly is compromised if moving more quickly IMO. Reminds me of practicing tear down/reassembling a Beretta 9mm in the dark. Yeah, that's what I need to do next... tear down the 10D and switch CF's in the dark! kidding...
Anyway, for 14 seconds even 20 seconds it takes that long to swap out CF's when removing from and placing them in sleeves. Certainly, if you're anticipating a CF change or are prepared for the swap it's just a matter of a few seconds... but we're not trying to replace methodologies here. Just noting a cool 'feature' which surprises me that no one has found or mentioned before.
