The code looks ok.

Some gallery providers prevent external linking. This means that when you link from OUTSIDE the actual gallery domain (e.g. outside pbase.com) the image will not be shown. This feature is usually put in place by sites to prevent excessive traffic, to encourage people to visit the actual gallery, or to prevent "image stealing".

I recall hearing that when you are a paid member of pbase it gets you external linking possibility.

I am a paid member. I will ask them.

phili1,

can you see your image now? (and more important, can everyone else see it?)

http://image.pbase.com/u36/phili1/upload/24611076.Basketball.bmp

if so, let me know. if not, let me know as well.

I can see it with Internet Explorer, but not with Mozilla Firebird. This is because the image is BMP format and most browser show only JPG, PNG and GIF.

UPDATE: a moment later it was gone... perhaps you edited it or something.
You don't have permission to access /u36/phili1/upload/24611076.Basketball.bmp on this server.

Thanks Pekka.

Let me try changing Philip's link again, this time according to the Pbase rules:

http://www.pbase.com/image/24611076.jpg

Does that seem to work better? How about in different browsers?

According to Pbase, for paid members only,

Direct linking to an image for use on another website, forums, or message board
Due to bandwidth costs, you can only use this feature if you have paid.

This works just like linking to an image page but append .jpg to the end of the URL.
example:http://www.pbase.com/image/23.jpg
example:http://www.pbase.com/image/23/medium.jpg

So that's what I tried this time.

Hopefully this will work. I moved my own gallery to pbase and would like to embed directly over here. Nice to experiment with someone else's stuff.

Yes that looks good.

Yes that looks good.

That does seem to work consistently, whereas the prior post comes and goes.

Pekka, you might want to put a special "how to" note in your FAQ, for paid pbase users. They should NOT use the image properties field, but instead should use the pbase page link and simply append it with .jpg (or, in this case, .bmp.)

P.S. Anyone ever tell you that you look like Brando?

I'm sure smugmug support can answer that. I have no "permission to view" systems in this forum. If the link is to an image the browser will show it if remote server delivers it. I can see all your posts just fine, and it seems everyone else can, too.
