Any Graphics experts, I would welcome your advice regarding the selection of a graphics card.
I currently use a HP Pavilon P4/2.2Ghz machine installed with Geforce MX420 64Mb SDR card. I do a lot of digital editing (Photoshop stuff mainly) and am just about to buy a IIYAMA 19" TFT DVI monitor, the recommendations I have seen suggest to get the most out of a monitor you need a good graphics card (esp as the monitor offers DVI input).
Also I have a desire for a TV card and SVideo to transfer some old 8mm tape footage to DVD.
Bottom line is I need a good 2D DVI graphics card and if it offers TV/sVideo even better.
thanks in advance
John

Hi,
I use a Radeon 9700 and like it very much, especially the way you can correct the grayscale with it is very usefull if you have a coloranalyzer.
A TFT will never give the same colorpresentation as a very good CRT, however I have grown to love my TFT, 20.1" Iiyama AU5131DT(BK) and would not exchange it now for a CRT anymore (not a professional portrait photograper).
However the Matrox series are alway's topnotch for PS work, and I'm now upgrading soon to a Matrox.
The DVI connection is a nobrainer, without DVI there is almost no use in going for a TFT.

Ditto,. Get a Matrox. :)

There are now 128MB and 256MB versions,. each come with twin DVI outputs and VGA converters for standard CRT monitors.
For working in 2d graphics apps. nothing is better than Matrox. It's been that way since 2MB pci cards. It is one of the few constants in the ever changing PC world.
p.s. //just get a Sony Aperture grill CRT and forget the LCD :)

Double ditto on Matrox, but nothing to do with the graphics card, check whether LCD is too smeary for video work.

There's not a TFT on the market I'd touch for photo editing. Stick with the CRT for that.

Matrox Millenuim P650 seems to be the best I've heard, anything over this might be overkill, you can read the thread on Toms Hardware

I have been using a 15" HP F50s TFT for the past two years without too many problems just find that 15" TFT is just a bit too small.
Also recently purchased the Spyder for accurate colour calibration
thanks for replies
