Monaco Optix XR; I quit...

I have tried to color balance my monitor with the Optix xr and always end up with a dull redish looking monitor.
I followed all the stps to the letter but failed everytime.
Anyone else that encountered that problem. My video card is a Matrox G550.

Sometimes when you've looked at your screen for so long and adjusting it using the eyeball method, when you finally do get it calibrated and profiled, it can look completely messed up when it is actually correct and your perception of correct is wrong. Try using it like this for a few days and see if your eyes don't adjust to it. I have the Optix XR and would say that it's accuracy is amazing when building monitor profiles. My prints have never looked better or more accurate. I'm talking about my profressional lab prints not my inkjet prints. And I use Mpix without the color correction. Also, this post is in the wrong section... it should be in the post production and printing section.

...and, just in case you think it's the display card causing problems, I've successfully calibrated TFT monitors connected to both Matrox G550 and P650 cards using a Spider 2 Pro system.

Rob,

do you leave the matrox color management as default? and only use the monitor settings to calibrate it?

I never touched the Matrox colour management for either the G550 or the P650, and have since replaced the Matrox display card with an Nvidia one anyway (had problems with the Matrox P650 seemingly unable to communicate properly with a Viewsonic widescreen DVI panel).

I've had no problem with my Monaco rig. It's made a big difference in my color accuracy. When the color profile kicks in at each boot, it seems that the color shifts warm, but I get good consistent results. I've calibrated both my laptop brightview screen and desktop crt. Try it again and have another set of eyes looking over your shoulder as you perform the process. It sometimes helps.

My Monaco thingy works fine, it's done quite a few machines now. I didn't even read the manual, I just plugged it in and went for it.

Do you find the monitor reddish after?

Nope, the monitor matches the prints. I'd call Monaco tech support if I were in your position.

I calibrate my monitor in the dark. Once it did with the TV on and the calibration was totally off. So now I shut off all the light and place a dark towel over it just to be sure and it has worked fine so far. Oh I use Spyder2 Suite, it doesn't adjust for ambient lighting like heuy and the Spyder 2 Pro.

Everything ends up being muddy brown...as in a wedding dress muddy brown... :confused:
I will try in the dark tonight. I already called the company. They said they would exchange the sensor. So good point for Monaco!
