Have decided to go for the 70-200mm f.4 lens as I havent heard one single word said against it but now the IS version is coming out what do you guys out there think, is the IS version worth the extra money? I see Warehouse Express have it marked up for £990 that is double the price! And do you think the price of the USM only version will go down in price now this newer version has come out? It isnt a heavy lens and should be easy enough to handhold. The new lens will be used for travel and general everyday stuff. I am happy to pay out for IS if you think it is the right way to go

i think its a bit expensive at the mo. the non IS is great, i would spend the difference on something else. you could almost get a 300f4IS and 70-200 f4 (secondhand) for that price... oh look... thats what ive got! and it works great:)

Don't know, do you need/want IS, and if so for how much more?

id get a sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX APO DG(second hand) for a little more than the 70-200mm f4

Unless weight is an issue, I'd think that the extra stop of the non-IS 2.8 would be preferable to f4 IS. (though not so much if you are shooting stationary subjects mostly)

I had the 70-200f4L....it was fantastic.
Razor sharp images wide open and it was just a gem of a lens. It took me a long time to let it go..I just upgraded to the Sigma 70-200 2.8 DG and will be here tomorrow I cant wait to use the new lens

I wouldnt pay that much extra for IS on the 70-200. It rocks even without IS :)
