A nice wee outcrop on the way to Meall nan Tarmachan. I think I may have been a bit heavy handed with the polarizing filter.

Maybe the CPL effect is all on one side? It is a nice shot but lacks a forground for me.

I remember this spot well. Meall nan Tarmachan was my son's first Munro (I think he was 10 at the time) and he was none too pleased to discover that this wasn't the summit!
CPLs and wide angle landscape shots are the bain of my life too. I am starting to adjust the CPL to a position intermediate between maximum and minimum sky/cloud contrast or leaving it off altogether if the shot looks good enough without it. :(

Thanks, guys.
I agree, Neily, that the effect is more to the left. It was my first time out with the filter and I should have shown a bit more restraint. There is not a lot happening in the foreground as you say but it was the ruggedness of the approach to the cairn that appealed to me (but I'm just a sucker for the hills).
Mike, I'm with your son on this one. I sat at this spot for ages admiring the view before realising that there was still a bit of climbing to do. Once at the top I started off along the ridge but realised that I had left it too late and turned back; there's always another time.
I can see what you and Neil are saying I think. Just because I have the filter doesn't mean that I have to use it; a lesson learned I hope.
Cheers, Jim.

:) the bigger they come the harder they are to adjust correctly :)

It was eleven years ago that I climbed this Munro, and I'm afraid to say that I had to look up my Munro book to remind me where it is. Still, nice shot, and play around with the CP as you can get some nice effects. The main thing to watch out for though is that will a wide angle lens, you can run the risk of ending up with one side of the photo more polarised than the other.

Hi John and Dimitri. It is a lovely wee hill (within easy driving distance) and one I hope to return to once the frost and snow arrives. The CPL will no doubt be used again but I will pay more attention in future and not just ramp it up to maximum effect.
Cheers, mtc.
