Well as the heading says, how do you practice photography (specifically automotive) in your spare time?

I am asking this question because at the moment I have no motivation to get out there and practice mainly because there isn't really anyone I know personally that have cars worth taking photos of! They are all stock, 2nd hand and not unique at all!

Any suggestions that might help me a) get motivated and b) techniques you use to practice!

Just to let you know, I start a photography course (4 years) in July so I am anxiously awaiting to start that! In the mean time - I need to build up any skills I can!

Thanks in advance!!

I know what you mean. All of my friends are into cars, but nothing are done to any of them or they're not worth time to take pictures of, and I get sick of shooting my car all the time.

But basically, the only way to practice is to get out there and shoot cars. If it's practice, then who cares what kind of car it is, or what's done to it, just get out and shoot.

Now I just have to listen to my own advice :P

make do with what you got! When I get to the states I will be shooting crap cars to just to learn more about the angles, and all. Noone said the cars have to look great :)

Practice on the plain cars. Look for good locations in your spair time. Driveway isnt the best spot but a good backround eventhough out of focus can add greatly to even a nothing car. Its practice When you get good at it making a nothing car photo look good then start looking for exceptional cars and apply what you found looks good with the plain cars. I have seen some great photos of nothing cars. Locaton and lighting are the hardest things to get right.

The car shouldnt make the photo great its the photographer. Nice cars just help. ;)

i agree, im crap at taking photos in general, but i will shoot anything to practce, and if i can make a standard boring car look good just imagine what would happen if a amazing car was in front of my lens. im constantly look for places to shoot mates cars or mine.

just go out and do it:D
