I set the digital zoom to on,, set the dial on auto and used a tripod, I was a a max of 48 with the zoom....and I set the timer to take the photo instead of me taking it to alleviate any shake

That is a nice shot....full moons are tough to grab because of the lack of detail due to the illumination of the sun...

Being an ex-astro-goober, may I be so bold as to suggest a few things....

Don't use digital zoom and possibly look into a tele-extender for your camera.

Digital zoom just interpolates the pixels, thus loosing critical detail data....e.g. making things look soft or possibly out of focus...

If you don't want to go that far with your camera, you've still done a fine job...

Second, split the image into its component channels; LRGB

Convert the Green channel to black and white/monochrome/greyscale, and do your processing there.

From my experience, the green channel retains most of the minute and fine detail of the lunar surface. The other channels (other than the Luminosity channel) just tend to muddy things up.

Just some thoughts...

Best,

Tom D
