So I went to my favorite spot and I am still wishing for something longer than my 85. I was thinking that my panning attempts did ok, but I think next time rather than shooting with center af I should choose left or right so they are not so centered in the frame.
What do you think?
All at 85mm F4 -1/3ev iso 200 on a 20d.

Beautiful. I hunt tundra swans on North Carolina's outerbanks and these shots really remind me of the experience. Thanks so much.

Thanks Rubberhead....I was pleased with the results, but I really would like something longer (300f4 or 100-400is). I just can't get my coconuts up to spend the dough.
BTW I have been going to Topsail island the last couple of years for family vacation, but have yet to go shooting anywhere but the beach in front of the house...it's so hard to get out of that beach chair once I'm in...lol

Hi,
I like #1 best. I like the three layers, dark foreground and blue sky then sun set. I agree with you about the birds being centered but I think in the first shot the fact that they are centered gives depth to the shot. Nice moody scenic shot.

Clare

I'm stuck with a 200mm maximum focal length so I know how you feel. I'd love to have a 400mm even at F/5.6 it's very usable for birds.

The Outbanks in the winter is a cold, desolate place but it's full of wildlife. I've even seen whales from the beaches in Kill Devil Hills. Most of the swan's I've hunted have been in Camden county around Elizabeth City.
Thanks again for capturing the feeling of those wonderful mornings.
