After over-thinking this topic I've managed to confuse myself. I'll list what I understand, then state my question.

Working with studio lights, i.e. ABs, you shoot in manual.
A hot shoe to PC adapter is used, and then a cord connects to the main light.
Or, you have a transmitter in your hotshoe, with the receiver in the main light.

My question is, does the hot shoe "fire" with every press of the shutter release on every shot ever regardless of settings?? Is it that simple? So the on camera flash is disabled/set to off, and you just shoot like this?

Thanks in advance.

If im understanding you yes. If you are using the sync cord every time you press the fire button it fires the main flash and then it will fire the rest. Its really simple, regardless of camera settings. If you got a hot shoe adapter for your sync cord it will override the onboard flash. I hope I understand your question and I answered it correctly.

Yes sounds like it. So it is that simple. Good to know.

Getting the lights to flash is that easy. Getting them to illuminate the way you want is the real problem....

Be sure to have your shutter speed lower than the max sync speed. 250th for the 20d, I believe.
