NOTE: The title should read "PictureStyles effect on grain" as its not really noise.
I was playing with PicStyles on 400D/XTi and noticed that Neutral and Faithful seem to have little or no noise reduction.

This affects JPG's mainly at high ISO with in-camera sharpening.
They also affect RAW. The samples in the link were cropped and saved with shot settings. (Sharpness 0)
Is this the same with the 30D?

With 350d+DPP, neutral is least noisier.

Interesting, but 350D doesn't use PictureStyles...?
Another test between Standard and Faithful:
JPG
1/180th
f/9.5
ISO 800
Canon 100-400 on tripod. Remote IR trigger and SAME FOCUS

Download them and compare. Notice Faithful has more detail and slightly higher noise.

No, but the new version of DPP has them and they affect the image if you select one of them. I have a 20D and found this out by accident.

Hehehe, thats cool... so all Canon DSLR's can now use PicStyles.

Looks that way, I'm not sure how many you get 'built-in' to the DSLR's that have them, but it looks as if you can download them and use them in DPP.

I don't believe that Picture Styles have any noise reduction adjustment. What you might be seeing, however, is the fact that sharpening does exagerate noise. Whether you do it in the camera, or in processing on your computer... it is going to be the same (if you are ultimately going to sharpen the image, which I assume you would).

Thats what I believed but the evidence is irrefutable for JPG's anyway. I set all the styles to have the same settings (which are different by default)
Neutral and Faithful consistently show more grain and better detail than the others. It becomes more evident as ISO and in-camera sharpening go up.
