^^ Nice shot. Nice and clean...sharp, and on point. Good emotion, as well. Don't ya just wish you had another foot or so of height? You could have gotten his other eye, as well...
Nonetheless, it's a great effort! I like it, regardless...what band?

He was a guitarist for Vieux Farka Toure, below. I didn't want to stand as everyone was sitting at that point of the show. I got plenty of good shots, that one just happened to show depth of field well. I have a ton of concert shots at f1.2 as well that I can post if people want them.

I'm repeatedly amazed how little depth of field this lens can have, this is a crop from a MKIII I borrowed from a friend and I was out with it just after the sun had gone away and everything was getting ready to get dark. Kind of pastel in a way, shot at 1.2.

Tony why?!
Yeah, the recent financial turmoil has thrown me on "hard times" -- I "once" made a living in the stock market:(.
So, I'm selling three "biggies" -- the 85L, the 300 f/2.8 IS, and the 24-70L. Getting what I can to keep it together and try to make some income.
If anyone's interested, the 85 asking $1500, the 24-70 $1k, the 300 $3500. I am considering any serious offer!

Wish I could take the 24-70 off your hands...but, I just don't have the fiscal capacity either. :( I hate to see you have to let it go, though...!
Why not start a portrait studio? Make some money there...you've got the skills...and for now, the gear! "If you build it, they will come." ;)

Heh! Whenever I think about that, it scares me, I wouldn't know how to begin! For one thing, I need funds quickly, and I found out this week that expected sources have dried up, so must act now!

I'm not giving up all my gear, but the 85 and the 300 are pretty special to me. The 24-70, though, tends to gather dust. Oh well!

I bought this lens after thinking about it for a year, my intention to be using it for portraits and it's been months since I've shot portraits with it it seems.
I seem instead to be trying to become an impressionist photographer LOL, don't know where this is taking me but the weather and season has been lousy for outdoor photography lately so I'm trying to invent something to shoot so I don't stop.

I think it would be fun to do this semi-impressionist Bokeh stuff with shutter drag using a speedlight to freeze the blur, it's generally breezy when I go out for these walks getting this stuff so maybe this'll be fun.
But it is a more versatile lens than I'd imagined, I used a singl 12mm extension tube today, would have liked a longer one.

Still blown away by the narrowness of the focus when I take a closer look. And this shot was stopped down a third to f1.4.
Nothing amazing, just a display of DOF control. And a 100% untouched crop below.

I had an 85mm 1.2L II...Bought it on ebay for half price, played with it for awhile, and sold it for a profit... Was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, especially knowing that in all likelihood, I will never be able to justify paying full price for this lens or any other, regardless of how uber-awesome it is.

I still think that image is the best image in this thread anyway, so seeing it again ain't a bad thing.

excellent as always ekk :)
I love the PP! I am still trying to figure out how to do it myself. RGB curves and decrease saturation?
Same here, any insight would be appreciated ekk. Looks like you had a good time in London, would've loved to have met up and shown you around though!
POTN really needs more of a social side to it.
thanks guys!!
TeeTee, I shouldve posted on here that I was gonna be in London. a few of the days there, i was just venturing out on my own walking from one place to another. Wouldve been nice to have someone show me the good spots lol. I had a friend thats working there for 3 months and stayed at the Citadine on Holborn.
As far as the PP goes:
- change white balance
- add recover (10-30)
- add fill light (10-30)
- increase contrast on some, decrease on others .. depends on image
- split toning with highlights to like a tan/lightbrown color
- decrease clarity in the negative to give it that dreaminess
- increase vibrance
- decrase saturation to around -60 to -70
anyhow, you can see more from London here:

because it turned me into a bokeh addict! I ruined certain shots due to this addiction. a recent example from an engagement shoot

http://www.londontourist.org/beginners.html
It has walking tours that you can follow on your own so you can go at your own pace and not have to rush to take photos. also, if you have time, take some day trips outside of london. i shouldve done that when I was there. london is pretty easy to get around though, either by foot, the underground, or the bus. though bus can be confusing at times, I had quite an adventure trying to catch the right bus to get to the airport when i left :o

Sorry for the off topic, everybody else. The 85 1.2 mk2 is a superb lens , I just love mine. I'm only jealous of Airfrogusmc's other gorgeous lens, the 200 2 is. That one I don't have, and I'm seriously drooling over it. I will probably get a 300 2.8 is instead of it solely on account of financial/practical reasons. Chimping is a tendency to gawp at the lcd of your camera after taking a photo. I believe the name comes from the noises the photography might be emitting in response to the beautiful image just created!

Do remember Dac that f1.8 on the 85L is different to the 85mm 1.8. Hope that sentence is understandable, but basically you can't compare the bokeh of both by only looking at one lens.
The creaminess and quality of the bokeh/OOF is also something that has a big influence on my buying decision.
